Geologist. Landslides in Greenland and Denmark. And landslide tsunamis!

A 1771 antique map, a 3D print of a beautiful LiDAR DEM, a glaciotectonic complex, some giant landslides and one of my all-time favourite field sites: Røsnæs, Denmark. When it all lands on your desk at once 🤘🤯

A wonderful new paper (Shugar et al. 2026) on the 150 million tonne Tracy Arm landslide and tsunami will have profound but challenging implications for the management of risk in fjords around the world in an age of increased tourism and rapid climate change:- eos.org/thelandslide...

Elevated water table triggering an idealised 3D-printed rotational landslide. Complete with a Monopoly house on top. A paper, presenting six different 3D-printable landslide models, has now been submitted for review. Once it is published, they will all be made freely available. Get printing!

Tsunamigenic rockslide on your desktop? This is a scaled and simplified model of the 2017 Karrat landslide. I think it captures the dynamics of the tsunami generation quite well, though it is of course, very simplified.

Look what arrived: Just bought two original hand-painted prints from Møns and Stevns Cliffs, Denmark, from 1851. These are photorealistic, made in collaboration by some of the best artists and scientists of the era.

3D-print demonstrating a rotational landslide at it simplest. Amazing how much you can actually communicate with such a simple model: Rotation, self-stabilization etc. Working towards making more complex models and share the blueprints so they can be used in outreach.

Crazy (horizontal) runup from the large landslide into Tracy Arm fjord, SE Alaska. This is 20 km out the fjord and the wave reached up to 400 m into this side valley. notice how the vegetation was only wetted for the most part (pixels still red) and only the mouth of the river is destroyed.

It has been a busy couple of days! There was a large landslide and tsunami in SE Alaska, in Tracy Arm, Sunday morning. Luckily, no injuries or casualties were reported. This region is outside of our current landslide coverage, but we were able to get a quick location after hearing about the event. 🧵

SPEECHLESS BEFORE / AFTER #BLATTEN The magnitude of destruction after the 3:24 pm collapse of Birch Glacier is immense! 😱 All the forest has been razed and the ice/wood/debris dammed the Lonza river 🌊 Some buildings of Blatten are buried 🏠 📷 Pomona

A 7 km² Landslide in Denmark?! Take a look at this massive beauty! Our peaceful (some might say “boring”) Danish landscape near Vejle hides giant secrets: colossal landslides from thousands of years ago. Completely unknown to scientist and locals alike.
