I am looking for someone knowledgeable about how the concept of prediction and predictive control feature in Optimal Feedback control theories, to contribute to a special issue - do I know any? (Please repost :) Some quick context 🧵
At the end of the term I asked my college creative wriing students to submit anonymous thoughts on AI. No real surprises: Mood ranges from resignation to despair, capitulation from embittered erosion of standards to total, feelings of betrayal from deep to furious. 1/
Between postdocs and trying to pay the bills somehow with different little temp jobs: had my first day as a cleaner yesterday. I used to do bond cleanings but doing the same job in your thirdies hits different 😬😅

Every year after #OHBM I fall more in love with that community. While my research is quite niche there, the people are super cool and inspiring. Can't wait to see them all again 🤩🥰
Train from Bordeaux to Paris is delayed because of an animal on the tracks?!? What a great way to end an already crazy conference week 🤣. #OHBM2026
Half time at #OHBM2026 and in love with @ohbmofficial.bsky.social again! Met so many new and old friends, had inspiring dicussions about science and academic life. 🩵🌟
First day of #OHBM2026 in the bag! Had super interesting conversations in the poster session and at dinner 🙂🩵. Conferences are the best, especially @ohbmofficial.bsky.social 🙂
Last minute poster printing for #OHBM2026 in progress! With a little help... Who is gonna be there? @ohbmofficial.bsky.social
My 5yo doesn't want to move again. I also don't want to. But I also want to. Research life is hard... We decided to both move to London but make a point of being very sourly about it. 😅
I am not a worrier but ever so often having little to no money pulls me into a dark sticky mud of worry. Worry about the coming years, worry about what I can give my son, worry about my pension that already has huge pay gaps, worry worry worry. And then it just blows over. Blissful ignorance.
The programme for the King's Open Research Summer School 2026 is now here! Free, open to everyone, and available both in-person and online. Register: tinyurl.com/3wbx9tmr
It only took me 3 weeks but I am finally fitting the volatile kalman filter to my data together with the uHGF, a rescorla-wagner, and Sutton model all using the BFGS algorithm. Easy small steps for many giant step including many lessons learned for me 😅
If we are indeed "stuck genAI " like LLMs and have to "get with the programme", can someone please make them more energy efficient? www.cell.com/patterns/ful... Independent thinking doesn't seem important enough to save but maybe the planet is?
The carbon and water footprints of data centers and what this could mean for artificial intelligence
Company-wide metrics from the environmental disclosure of data center operators suggest that AI systems may have a carbon footprint equivalent to that of New York City in 2025, while their water footp...

😳!!! Huge implications. “The goal here is not to question which entities are, in fact, conscious or not. Rather, we question the scientific bases of these claims.” (Thank you for it!)
authors.elsevier.com/c/1nA3C_KOmx... new paper in Neuron in which we argue that many claims on consciousness in AI & animals etc are inconsistent. they are driven by theories/views that are not really supported by empirical evidence. they confuse subjective experience w/ cognition or perception
Is anyone going to #OHBM2026 @ohbmofficial.bsky.social who likes to box and would be up for practicing some drills here and there? 🙃

Recently I have come across students who are told to use toolboxes to process their data but lack the basics of the corresponding programming language. They then turn to ChatGPT to help them debug the code when it throws an error. #Programming This type of thing worries me for numerous reasons:
OMG, I actually dreamed that I somehow won 250'000.- research money in some science-raffle and was about to ask my new PI what we should do with the money 🫠.

Just to clarify: I personally have not experienced anything like this. Seems like once you started in a lab with a good and kind supervisor (Klaas E. Stephan) the likelihood of being guided to people with a similar attitudes (previously @drbreaky.bsky.social and now soon Prof. Mitul Mehta) is high.
If you are in academia long enough you will either hear of or experience toxic academics. Those of us lucky enough to not go through anything like that (yet) know names, heard stories, were quietly warned and stay away. Those who were affected also only wisper to the ones they trust.

What a privilege it is to live and work in different countries! It is a real perk of research life that many people never get to experience. I do feel bad for my son sometimes because of all the friends he makes that he has to let go of at such a young age. But still. What a privilege!
I have been getting review requests from Qeios (www.qeios.com). Does anyone here know if this is indeed "Research you can trust"? Would you accept a review request from this platform? I have never heard of it before and am unsure...
