Would it have been easier to pass without saying hello? No, actually, because that would leave me wondering if I should have said hello, and I’d probably feel a bit annoyed with myself. Saying hello brightened ‘both’ of our days.
Anyhoo, while taking the garbage to the chute just now, I passed a man who I think is a recent immigrant, waiting for the elevator, and I said “Hello”, and he lit up. As I returned, he wished me a good day and had a big smile. I hope I improved his day and made him feel seen and at home.
