What Danielle said. According to the Yale Budget Lab, the average effective tariff rate in this economy right now is 18.2% Let me put that another way. President Trump has raised taxes on American businesses and consumers by -- on average -- 18.2%

A thing I really need people to keep in mind: 15% tariffs are high, historically speaking. 10% tariffs are high. The average effective tariff rate before this term was just over 2%. Anything double-digits is high!

TL;DR: 5 justices say Trump doesn't have to immediately restore the funding, but 5 *also* signal that the underlying directives are unlawful. That sends a fairly strong (if mixed) message that Trump will lose these cases *eventually,* but only once they're brought in the Court of Federal Claims.

Splitting 5-4 (with Chief Justice Roberts joining the three Democratic appointees in dissent), #SCOTUS grants *partial* stay to Trump administration in NIH funding case; holds that challenges to grant terminations (but *not* the underlying guidance) need to be filed in the Court of Federal Claims:

Head of FEMA Urban Search and Rescue branch resigns. He told colleagues that TX delay was tipping point after months of admin efforts to dismantle the agency. DHS Sec Noem took 72 hours after TX flooding to authorize the deployment of FEMA’s search and rescue network www.cnn.com/2025/07/21/p...

BREAKING: Scientists are staging a “science fair” in the lobby of a Congressional building to tell elected officials about the critical knowledge the US will lose because their research grants have been canceled.

I rarely comment on these things, but these are unusual times. 249 years ago the Declaration called Natives "Merciless Indian Savages.," and the Constitution excluded us from protection while enabling our dispossession. We remember this history not to cause harm, but to grasp the consequences./1

Ann Coulter commenting that "We (meaning the U.S., presumably) did not kill enough Indians."

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Why is faculty governance so important? The AAUP has understood for over a century that without it, and unless we are independent of outside influence, universities have no claim to the public trust. @aaup.org www.aaup.org/NR/rdonlyres...

The despicable ouster of the University of Virginia's president @universityofva.bsky.social has some precedent, in the ouster of sister school William and Mary's president years ago. Let's start with the article by ACTA, a PROJECT 2025 sponsor. www.goacta.org/news-item/wi...

Email from Brown admin: government stopped payment on existing NIH grants as of April 3; in three months since, the gov't has cumulatively withheld $45 million in NIH grant reimbursements. Whatever injunctions, court orders, etc. may exist, no resumption of payments... and no explanation either.

1. Trump's cuts to USAID and PEPFAR will far outweigh any benefit that accrues in eastern DRC. 2. The "peace" deal is really another minerals deal, with little regard for human security. (We have a piece lined up on this.) tl;dr: Trump & Vance don't care about Black lives, in the US or Africa.

Tagging Jamelle Bouie in these trolling posts from the literal Vice President of the United States is such scummy, racist behavior. These really are the worst people in the world. This guy isn't even trying to be a statesman; he's a gutter troll.

Skeets from JD Vance: "The peace treaty signing yesterday between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda was truly historic. That war has killed more than any since World War 2, almost all of them black...

I'm sure the leaders and supporters of the black lives matter movement will join me in celebrating President Trump today, who has done more to save black lives than any leader in our country.
