Again: for any big liberal donor who wants to funnel millions into fixing this country's politics, the ROI on buying any struggling paper and simply tasking it with doing real reporting on local news is vastly higher than the same $$ given to some group that does mass ad buys every election year.

The nonprofit that runs the successful, Pulitzer-winning Baltimore Banner is going to take over the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Of all the possible outcomes here, this is likely the best we could have hoped for. apnews.com/article/pitt...

Here at the council's first ad hoc committee since January 26 (!) to discuss LA28's new procurement strategy, LA28's human rights strategy, and a motion to prioritize sidewalk repairs around venues. Listen here — sorry, we can launch a rocket around the moon, but no video for committee meetings

LAPD Chief McDonnell's refusal to enforce the "No Secret Police Act" is no aberration. It's reflection of a vision for LAPD that is fundamentally incompatible with the reform-minded direction L.A. has been struggling toward for 50 years. mikebonin.substack.com/p/jim-mcdonn...

"Anything less is a distraction and undermines efforts to make sure the Games truly reflect the values of a city." Now LA City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez, who also sits on the city's ad hoc Olympics and Paralympics committee, is calling for LA28 chair Casey Wasserman to step down

"At the same time as Ghislaine Maxwell was orchestrating one of the most notorious sex-trafficking operations in our country's history, she was allegedly romantically involved with the person now serving as Chair of LA28.
Casey Wasserman should step aside immediately. Anything less is a distraction and undermines efforts to make sure the Games truly reflect the values of a city that is for everyone."
