This is a really nice reflection on parenthood. Makes me feel hopeful anticipation for myself and an appreciation for my friends who are parents. (Both things I already felt, but this shines a new light on them.)

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano
Another unarmed victim shot by ICE agents in Austin today. The Austin Mayor and Rep Greg Cesar are calling for an independent investigation, which would be conducted by Austin PD and Texas Rangers. Something tells me we won’t get any justice, just like we haven’t gotten justice in Houston.
It is wonderful to see someone who is actually French and posting in French write “hon hon hon”
Hon hon hon
the media’s reaction to this anthropic guy’s tweets are a great demonstration of how they don’t want to inform the public, they’re just happy to go along with a sensationalist narrative handed to them by deluded and self-interested tech people
dawg the brazilians are calling it asfaltos unidos in the QTs we're getting cooked
this shot is so bleak lmao
Public transit is safer than driving even when you account for crime but you might see a poor or homeless person which many Americans believe is the equivalent of being the victim of a crime. www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-p...
These Charts Explain Why Public Transit Is Safer Than Driving
The rates of fatal crashes and crime are both lower on public transportation than on roadways

I think you're going to have a difficult time convincing families with young children to give up car culture and take more public transit if you also refuse to police behavior on the public transit and in the transit centers. Yes, people doing drugs in those places is a turn-off.
This is my best shot at summarizing into a coherent narrative what I know of the Early Philippe Affair using my familiarity with the Complete Works of Jacques & Raïssa Maritain and the letters between J. Maritain and his friend Charles Journet. I hope it's helpful as a starting point of some sort.
Every marginalized identity CAN be weaponized against the yet more marginalized. At a social club for seriously mentally ill folks, I’ve seen hatred of the participants who are homeless & mentally ill: “They don’t want to contribute. They just want a handout.” Solidarity takes work and pedagogy.
I really appreciated this quote. I think sometimes Leftists assume there’s some form of class solidarity between working class people and homeless people - which would be logical. But in my experience that’s not the case - especially amongst immigrants
I just spoke with Sister Sharon of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Philly. She drove straight from the ICE prison there where she was doing a weekly prayer session to Delaney Hall to support the hunger strikers. This is what she had to say:
The New School student government is suspending student funding for the campus Hillel chapter. They cite programs sending students to support the IDF, including units that killed a 78-year-old American, and killed 15 Palestinian emergency workers & buried them in a mass grave.

It’s funny how if you read about Jose Maria Escriva for like five minutes your only options as a Catholic are “universalism is true” and “not every canonization the pope comes up with is true”

Wow—the Pope is going with full-on liberation theology:
I also am not on the ballot in Maine. And I, too, am OUTRAGED that the media refuse to take my candidacy for senate seriously. Who is paying them not to cover marginal candidates who couldn’t make it on the ballot?
Isn’t it strange that big media companies are only focusing on two of the candidates for US Senate in Maine? The same big media companies that benefit a lot by republicans staying in power? They know what they’re doing and I hope Mainers don’t fall for it. I’m the best chance of beating Collins.
BREAKING: At tonight’s NYC-DSA electoral forum, @aoc.bsky.social committed to voting against “any spending on arms for Israel, including so-called defensive capabilities.”
Tonight (right now actually) NYC-DSA is holding a virtual candidate forum with AOC as they consider whether to endorse her for reelection. The endorsement itself hardly matters – AOC will obviously win reelection – but it’s significant as DSA and AOC prep for a potential presidential run in 2028.
“Obsessive rehearsal of the genocide line” The US-sponsored Israeli genocide of Palestine is one of the most important events and greatest evils in the world today. All the more so because genocide deniers like Stancil are trying to shift attention anywhere else
This was always the problem with the obsessive rehearsal of the genocide line: so many of the people doing it don’t actually care what happens to Palestinians (which is why they never cared about Trump), they were just looking for a permission structure
Pope Leo has received Gareth Gore in a private audience today; Gore has done significant investigative reporting regarding the corruption and scandal surrounding Opus Dei. His book “Opus” exposes “the Cult of Dark Money, Human Trafficking, and Right-Wing Conspiracy inside the Catholic Church.”
Any DC consultant who says we should throw trans kids or immigrants under the bus should be purged from the party payroll. We do not sell people out. Because a politics that is willing to sell anyone out will eventually sell everyone out.
