Life Drawing - July 2026

I have written here about masks on twenty separate occasions (this post will make that twenty-one occasions), and my first book of artwork was titled Myth & Masks: Artwork by Paul Watson 2013–2015. Th...

Hookland Fragments by @hookland.bsky.social has just arrived, and already it feels like it's been here forever. Once it's on my shelves, it'll sit next to @lazaruscorporation.co.uk Rituals and Declarations, since to my mind at least, there can't be one without the other
As promised to link to my first actual Hookland book. It is only small, but covers a lot of the ghost soil. If enough of you buy it and like it there will be a Volume Two. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1068598123 It will also be available in an actual bookshop soon.
Horrible new bullshit from the sea every time. It’s never ‘oh we found a new pink fish that is so happy’ it’s always stuff like this, the crush-depth screw-headed dongwongler, and it’s got to have big long creepy bits. Sick of the ocean tbh.
Managed to get some life-drawing done yesterday (pics on my blog), and starting to arrange a few more sessions for this month. Finally breaking out of a very dry artistic few months.

It exists as a physical thing. As manifestation. As a night remembered and a county found.
There are multiple warnings for extreme heat and thunderstorms across the UK for both today and tomorrow Latest info 👉 bit.ly/WxWarning Stay #WeatherAware⚠️
THIS!! THIS!!!! Every time I hear "British homes are designed to keep the heat in, that's why they're so hot" I swear I get closer to a breakdown. Look at the sine nature of the curve versus the flat line for the internal temperature. Properly insulated and ventilated (without AC) does this. 1/
🫠 Tarmac is melting, trains are cancelled and people & animals are seeking refuge where they can. We feel very lucky that our home can provide that refuge. Over the last few days, when outside temperatures peaked at 32.5C here in Herefordshire, our house remained comfortably below 22C.

This month started off with a colonoscopy, which, honestly, is not the best way to start a month. *record scratch* - let me explain (spoiler: I’m absolutely fine). Here in the UK the NHS sends…

Usually when the government seeks to prohibit or ban something they treat it like a spell. That’s why they often don’t work. But sometimes the government will self-sabotage a ban by having exceptions so wide so as to render the ban ineffective. Like fox hunting, and now like this.
I've spent years working towards a ban on conversion practices, hoping to see a bill published. Today, I just feel so profoundly sad. As many others have noted, the draft has a carve out for "healthcare" so broad it makes a mockery of the idea this is a 'ban'. 1/2 www.gov.uk/government/p...
This is why cities need trees. Hard surfaces and parked cars can reach extreme temperatures, while shaded grass and tree-covered areas stay dramatically cooler. This is the urban heat island effect in one image: hard surfaces absorb and radiate heat, while vegetation and shade reduce it.
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism, but the wondrous "Rabbit Trap" is currently on the evil Prime streaming service for the paltry fee of £1.99 and I suggest you take advantage of giving them as little money as possible www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj7U...
