I've been writing about how I'm managing the social and performance aspects of being a debut author as someone who's an introvert and somewhat socially anxious. #booksky lcwinterauthor.substack.com/p/staying-sa...
Staying sane(ish) in Book World
I’ve mentioned before that I’m a huge introvert, not to mention socially awkward with it, and that the social events have been the biggest challenge of my entry into the publishing world so far.

Villain Origin Stories
As a gardener I often start with the metaphors of seeds and compost for my story creation process but I really don’t think those are appropriate when it comes to villains.

Knitters be taking none of your shit.
A friend told me he had been clearing out his gran’s house. While he was there he found a knitted effigy of the man who had run off and abandoned my friend’s pregnant aunt. Into the effigy had been stuck twenty knitting needles: one for every year since the man had vanished.

Help! My husband is reading my book!
You might be asking why he hasn’t read Spider, Spider before but, until now, MrK and I have had a policy that sometimes shocks other writers:

I am seriously tempted to get a typewriter for first drafting. But it's going to have to go in an ai-slop machine at some point at which point, it'll have no version history and therefore will look ai generated. Ha ha ha oh god
"we hear you saying you absolutely do not under any circumstances want this AI clownslop and we promise we are working on solutions to make this AI clownslop even better so it can do even more things that you never wanted done!"

My friend: we're in (small town in Wales) and the book shop has your book! Me: cool! That's near my parents and they've harassed the book shop into stocking it 🤣 My friend: we're now arguing about who gets to buy the last one.

In totally inconsequential stuff I just finished the Shivering Isles expansion of Oblivion Remastered and I think it is my favourite Elder Scrolls DLC. The SI landscape recalls Morrowind and Bliss/Crucible might be the best ES city ever.
