How it's going: I sprayed mosquito repellent on my hair instead of heat protect spray, so now my hair is strangely sticky and I stink of DEET. Upside: Crumble still loves me. Possibly because I just gave her biscuits, but I'll take it.

Lee Dart Verrall. Writer based in Yorkshire (repped by Stacia Decker at Dunow, Carlson and Lerner). Queer fantasy and horror. Obsessed with my dog, and also probably with your dog (and cat). Cows scare me.

I love this movie. Double bill with Alien: Covenant, yes and thank you.
… … … it’s good, actually

Surprise!! One of the several (👀 both author and agent 👀) secrets I’ve been keeping is that the Vile Lady Villains UK paperback edition comes out in October! And it’s part of the @waterstones 25% off campaign so you can get it for less until tomorrow 🖤 Also, preorders help authors immensely.
This. Intentionally and repeatedly misgendering people is a form of bullying, which isn't tolerated in humane workplaces.
Good. Look, if it is a genuinely honest error, most people I know, including myself, aren't going to make a fuss beyond maybe a gentle clarification first time. If people wilfully misgender trans and non-binary individuals though they absolutely should face misconduct proceedings.
Incredibly chuffed to announce that I'm now agented by the lovely Stacia Decker at DCL!!!
Delighted to share the UK cover of Exhumation. Early reviews are calling this my best one yet. I think it's certainly my most ambitious. Out in October! Preorder if you can!
To anyone complaining about The Odyssey Doing Diversity, I have to ask: have you truly suffered? Have you been forced to see the first 30 minutes of Troy (2004) in an overwarm ClassCiv classroom, year on year? In which Achilles does not make out with Patroclus, no, not even once? HAVE YOU SUFFERED?
Eric the Weedy Sea Dragon survived Pride! Things that were good: 1. Children pointing at Eric 2. People in the crowd who yelled 'what is that?' 3. People in the crowd who yelled 'seahorse!' 4. People in the crowd who yelled 'sea dragon!', prompting me to yell 'YOU KNOW WHAT HE IS' in joy
My pride sea dragon is coming to LIFE (*don't judge him too harshly, he still needs fins and a yellow centre line)
The weedy seadragon pride sign is starting to look very beautiful. Options for captions include 'why obey "common sense" when you could embrace the fabulous reality of your existence'. It's not snappy! I don't care!

Due to Events, we watched In The Mouth of Madness for the first time. It's weird! I liked it! Crumble was fine with the eldritch horrors but disliked the loud dogs. Tentacles are cool, Dobermans are not. Filmmakers take note.

I was explaining Wolf Worm to my biologist friend, which prompted her to admit that years ago she had the pleasure of extracting botfly larvae from her partner's chest when they went on holiday. (suppressing delight) 'Dw I've almost got it!' Do not let anyone tell you that biologists are Normal.

Leeds Pride is coming up and last year I had a jellyfish sign (on which I ultimately wrote 'Nature is Not Binary'. What sea creature should my sign be shaped as this year?
look at this weird awesome pointy guy!
WE HAVE AVOCET NEWS!!! An Avocet spotted at RSPB Middleton Lakes has been confirmed as the oldest ever recorded in the UK. At 36 years old, it's lived more than five times longer than the species' average lifespan. First ringed in 1990, it's still out there doing Avocet things. Go on Avocet. 😍
Spoke with a delightful author yesterday and we both agreed that because we write horror our search history may be a little... errr... Case in point, me opening my planning document for WIP this morning:
Some signs from today! Loved to see that many groups were putting trans people and rights front and centre.
Back to back nights of seeing a juvenile badger 🦡 AND THEN a juvenile hedgehog 🦔 in our garden (the hog toddled down our path in a businesslike manner and was shocked to discover us; the badger was more circumspect). They're inconvenient. They drive our dog crazy. I love them.
One day I'm going to write a whole scene about the french onion soup / cheese savoury parfait I had two years ago... I thought I had transcended.
Listen I'm laughing but a long, LONG time ago I had a savory parfait so delicious that I literally recreated it (in a parfait glass! with a long spoon!) in one of my upcoming novels I have never forgotten it! It was so good!
