I love this take every time I see it. Just imagining some time traveller stepping out in 1995, phoning the Rush Limbaugh show, and saying "What I love about your era's Disney is they don't care about political correctness and trying to be diverse. Why, I'm sure you love Pocahontas as much as I do!"

"The ultimate Mount Rushmore of Disney crushes" (Meg from Hercules, Pocahontas from Pocahontas, Lilo's sister from Lilo and Stitch, and Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame). The Donnie Darko verified account has faked a reply saying "It's crazy how much better Disney handled diversity when they weren't even trying". Don't ask why Donnie Darko, it's a whole thing

Hooting at this post Facebook decided to give me, clearly written by a teen blessed with never having to live through the equally idiotic culture wars of the 90s and 00s.

"Sometimes I think Disney was more inclusive when it wasn't trying so hard to be" with screenshots from The Princess and the Frog (showing a black woman), Brother Bear (showing three native Alaskans), The Emperor's New Groove (showing a family of Incans) and Lilo and Stitch (showing two Hawaiian girls)

The fucking literacy crisis is also a political crisis - if you can’t retain information and can’t see themes in what you read you also can’t retain information about your life or see themes in it - which is convenient for fascists and oligarchs both. You know you’re miserable and you don’t know why

I’m learning that the people who gamified paragraphs are having trouble reading books. www.axios.com/2026/08/11/r...

Al has become my reading buddy as I've plowed through my summer book list, helping me keep track of plots and characters, unpack themes, and make sense of wordy, old prose.
• Why it matters: The way many of us actually read books - a few pages before bed, a chapter at the beach, another on a plane - makes it easy to lose the thread. Al can help you pick it back up without starting over.
Ш I really got into using Al while reading James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans." The text was far too dense for casual vacation reading. My first prompt asked:
• "T'd like a guide as I read The Last of the Mohicans who can help me understand what I've read and where the story is, without giving spoilers or getting ahead of my progress. Can you do this, chapter by chapter?"
• The robot agreed: "Cooper's sentences are long and his diction is archaic."

My bike (along with several others) was stolen from a secure room that very few people have access too that has a camera in it. The police gave me a form I could submit to my insurance company and that’s the last I heard of their thorough investigation.

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

AI psychosis among the executive class stems primarily from two obsessions (1) slashing labor costs (2) searching for the next dotcom boom to make free money from nothing. But we cannot discount the deleterious effect every single “Enhance!” scene has had on an increasingly illiterate audience.

Some amazing quotes in this article about how Ford replaced hundreds of engineers with AI, which broke a bunch of shit causing billions in damage and forcing them to rehire those people. www.the-independent.com/tech/ford-ai...

“Artificial intelligence is a fantastic tool, but it’s only as good as the information you use to train it,” said Charles Poon, Ford’s vice president of vehicle hardware engineering.

as a committed centrist, it saddens me that both parties are falling captive to their extremes - the right to insurrectionist cultists who want to invade american cities, and the left to socialists who want better bus service
