Nonexistent

@lenonexistent.bsky.social

A lot of people misspell the word "nonexistent" as "nonexistant"; to be honest, I never really understood that.

So when I convert video files in Handbrake, my "conversion complete" sound is the Tekken 3 announcer. I'm sitting here watching Tree House of Horror when suddenly the conversion ended with perfect timing

Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.

In Paper Mario, the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, Whacka was just a harmless whack-a-mole creature that could be abused to get Whacka Bumps, extremely valuable healing items. After being hit enough times, the Whacka goes extinct, teaching the players the consequences of their actions. However, in the Switch version of Paper Mario: TTYD, he instead moves to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and becomes an optional superboss with 108 HP. He is fought at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and has to be hit 8 times in order for the fight to activate. but also The number 108 is considered sacred by the Dharmic religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Whacka symbolizes karma for killing him in past games ring the bell 108 times, per Japanese tradition? The ringing of the bell represents the 108 bonno-defilements of man.. Buddhism holds the view that there are precisely 108 temptations on the path to Nirvana. Therefore, in order to reach Nirvana, every Buddhist must resist 108 earthly temptations. With a combination of any of the elements of the above four factors, there are 108 ways with which the karmas can be attracted to the soul. the earthly temptation to get those Whacka Bumps There are 108 qualities of praiseworthy souls Some people think that the human spirit travels through 108 stages, while others believe that enlightenment is attainable with just 108 breaths each day while in Intense meditation, 108 beads to awaken your inner light Meditators count mantra repetitions with mala beads of 108, (100 counted for self, 8 for mistakes and for those who have not the opportunity to meditate in mantra) 108 breaths to return to your truth 108 mantras to dissolve ego into dever 108 steps from the self to the soul The Sacred Meaning of 108 Temple Steps the journey to Whacka is a journey of enlightenment

If you leave short story-sized comments in your code, it should be to explain something so messed up that you need to leave a message to yourself, Memento-style See: the first half of a comment block I left in the weapon code of Reelism 2

A massive comment block in the Basketball weapon code for Reelism 2. It reads, in part: "Abandon hope, all ye who enter the Splot_BasketballProjectile section! During the Early Excess period for Reelism 2, the Basketball was extremely prone to crashing. This was probably the most frequent piece of feedback that we received. We tried many, many, many times to fix it, and for that reason, I must tell you the story of what happened. The Basketball was originally split between two objects: a projectile actor, which handled the collisions with monsters and geometry, and a WeaponGiver actor with a larger radius, which is what the player picked up and made the ball easier to grab in the air. This configuration ran into an issue where, randomly, GZDoom would crash immediately after the ball was thrown or dunked. The problem stuck around for months, even persisting into the first public release of Reelism 2, much to our frustration. As far as we can tell, the underlying problem was related to how the two Basketball actors would need to constantly reference each other. If one actor was removed from play in the middle of the other actor's script, there was a chance that GZDoom would crash by trying to reference the properties of an object that didn't exist anymore. We could never get the two actors in sync, no matter how many safeguards we added. The obvious solution to this problem was to combine the two Basketball objects into one actor, which is what you'll see below. However, I was reluctant to do this at first, because we would lose the expanded WeaponGiver hitbox. The Basketball is a pretty small object, so I was hestitant to cut that feature. I started to implement the trimmed-down version of the Basketball on the evening of December 2, 2020 when the solution dawned on me: We could still use a hitbox actor, as long as it did NOTHING."
