No one likes orange cats?? This cannot be true. My house is maxed out but Bay Area people, I know someone is feeling the orange cat love!
Bay Area friends: would you consider opening your home to these two cuddly cats? A friend found them behind a gas station. Their sibling, a black cat, got adopted, but it appears no one likes orange cats. They are being kept in a bathroom for the time being and need a home.
On the train today there was a woman with a baby, and the baby was at that age where they're learning to talk and they make very weird noises. I was listening to this baby make their alien noises and I thought to myself, oh this is where Angine de Poitrine got it from!
[Fosse style choreography] OPAL! OPAL! Dinosaur, dinosaur, dinosaur FUCK ICE *jazz hands*
Hey y'all, I hate to ask when EVERYBODY is on the struggle bus, but we have a family here at the campground whose dad was snatched by ICE at the local airport the other day. We're covering & extending their stay, but they need more help. Venmo @Caz-A paypal.me/ccabb Kenny tax:
Years back a new guy started at my partner's workplace, new guy was Canadian but wanted to live in the LAND OF THE FREEEE so he got a job in the US. He was really excited about it until HR explained to him how much his health insurance and out of pocket costs would be, and then he panicked.
a Canadian is asking this with a very different inflection than an American would. 😬

I'm officially done with autocat. Reposting this info for anyone else who is tired of the racism and transphobia on that list.
If you're a cataloger who's looking for an alternative to autocat, myself and @bardiclady.bsky.social administer a discord for library cataloging. Please send me a message here or at liadan dot ryland at sfpl dot org if you're interested in joining!

FYI there is no "real" reason why Rome "fell." Its power waned for the usual, mundane reasons: widening gap between rich and poor, inability to maintain infrastructure, incompetent leadership, pointless wars, endless persecution of marginalized groups who performed vital labor, etc.

An older woman spinning wool and wearing a magnificently chunky knitted sweater vest, from a 16mm home movie shot in tiny, rural Bitely, Michigan circa 1929.
I’ve been doing some in-depth reporting on the Prairieland cases, and had to get this out first as I continue to dig: I spoke with Ana Bell, sister of Des, who it turns out co-owns and runs an indie bookstore. We talked about the case, the judge, book banning, ICE killings, and living through this:
My Brother Was Sentenced to 30 Years for Moving a Box of Zines
The sister of a defendant in the Prairieland case, which targeted Texas ICE protesters, speaks out.

Oh, I forgot becoming the designated office bird whisperer which is my top absurd work situation as a librarian: bsky.app/profile/liad...
what are some absurd work situations you can share? once i got called into a meeting i had nothing to do with because the consultant brought an engineer and no one in the room could understand him, so they asked me to translate. he was scouse. i translated from english to english.
In a similar vein: at a previous library after talking to a patron, a coworker came up to me and asked, "you can understand him?" I said yes. Coworker said no one else there could understand his accent. He was Irish, which I don't think is hard to understand? But I became his go to librarian.
