So apparently that HWA pro-AI newsletter also uses Indigenous water rights issues as a prop, trivializing the activism by Indigenous peoples to protect our water including specific anti-data centre actions. I guess they figured why not alienate Indigenous horror writers while they’re at it?

This. Like, a bunch of us who are speaking up are members of the organization, and even though we're not the board, we feel responsibility toward steering it in positive directions.
that HWA newsletter op-ed was disgusting, juvenile, stupid, AND poorly written, but I do think we need to underline the distinction between "the organization allowed a bad essay to be published in an official communication" and "the HWA endorses this point of view"
Girón: oh so you don't like ai, huh?!?! Girón: well, news flash, hot shot! Girón: maybe you didn't know this Girón: but technology already exists! Girón: if you hate ai so much, why don't you stop using electricty, huh? or levers? or the wheel??? Girón: maybe you should stop using fire too huh????
Sèphera Girón: so i hear some of you writers don't like ai Girón: well, i'm tired of all you writers not liking ai! Girón: and i'm gonna let you all know it! Girón: i'm mad as hell! Girón: put that in the newspaper! Girón: or better yet Girón: put it in the HWA newsletter!
Professional writer organizations should not send out pro-AI propaganda in the form of tantrum-having "essays" to their members, and I don't think that's controversial.
Regarding The Pro-AI Tantrum In The HWA Newsletter
Today I, and every other HWA member, received the HWA newsletter in our inboxes. In that newsletter was an essay (“essay”) of pro-AI propaganda that made a number of specious points in …

1 like = 1 outrageously untrue fact about me
Infuriating HWA op-ed calling people who don't want imitative AI "gatekeepers". What exactly are we suppose to be gatekeeping against, here? Plagiarism and mediocrity? Get the fuck outta my gate, hacks
There is a lengthy pro-AI screed in the latest HWA newsletter and it is . . . a mood.
Less of the "convicted former neo-Nazi", mind. I've never seen anyone talk about a convicted former murderer
The Tories have selected a convicted former Neo-Nazi as a councillor. Here's why that reflects very poorly on Jeremy Corbyn.
If you’d like to read the report exposing the anti trans people ‘Gender Critical’ movement in the UK - which sadly Amnesty took down after bottling it due to legal threats from the Edinburgh Funder - here it is. Like_a_snowball_final_.pdf - Google Drive drive.google.com/file/d/1PSsa...
I just literally spilt some beans, which is the third time in my life I have needed the pedantic sense of the word 'literally' (Another time something literally fell off the back of a lorry, and I can't remember what the other one was)
Let's talk about JK Rowling's 'bearded men'... I want to vent something that's been on my mind: The way transphobic groups and individuals are also actively homophobic. I've experienced it first hand, and know many others have too. 1/
“Protect users from discrimination and harassment” is doing a whole lot of heavy lifting for a code that is explicitly designed to target, harass, and enable discrimination against trans people, who should be protected by the Equality Act 2010
Our code of practice for services, public functions and associations comes into force today. It provides practical guidance on how the Equality Act 2010 applies to services, public functions and associations. Find out more: https://ow.ly/alIf50Zwrkx
Here’s the latest stop motion animation from my Tiny Angry Witch team. (I’m the writer, I can’t take credit for the animating!) It’s one of our longest, and it nearly drove us all mad, but we’re really proud of getting it made! 1 x Tiny Angry Witch 1 x broom No AI
My dad used to have a jokey answer back in the day when people would occasionally ask what a word processor is: "You know what a food processor does to food?" which is a pretty accurate description of what an LLM does, much better than "AI" or even "generative", except there's no joke
I just know he went on to conflate "AI" (slop generation, derogatory) with "AI" (any computing, nebulous), this is why new shit should have new names
Guys like this don’t realize that they are the freak
I really hope this takes off. There needs to be a creative storefront marketplace that actually bans genai and drop shipping, and I hope it's a 100% ban. Etsy is completely ruined and not artist friendly. Much luck to Fybe! fybe.art

Disappointed to learn that Hugh Howey, author of "Don't Create the Torment Nexus Or Everyone Will Die in an Underpass", is writing torment nexus apologetics
Please listen to our podcast it involves a load of bums on pogo sticks attacking Lewisham
For those of you who don’t know, Chapter Two, landing tomorrow, is titled An Army of Bums. What could that mean? Is it a metaphor? No. No it is not. We are also so sorry for the lack of umlaut I don’t know what we were thinking please don’t cancel us.
I think I found what kind of horrible bear @oocbiffo.bsky.social is. And of course it's named after a deadly sin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloth_b...
What I don’t understand about all this suing - are Rowling and her ilk hoping people will think they *like* trans people??
what clown called it trapeze artistry and not folkslinging
Amnesty UK have apologised to JK Rowling for rightfully calling out her anti-rights rhetoric. Shame on them. A human rights organisation should not cave to pressure from billionaires, especially those who wish to make supporting human rights a terrorist offence. xoxo BASH BACK
I'm sick of this shit. Not having the tools isn't even an excuse anymore. Hip hop and punk rock Crews in the 80s were putting shows with these flyers. Some of them handwritten and hand drawn. No excuse.
Have you seen these ChatGPT ahh flyers? Well, we at 404 Media see them everywhere. “It might feel like you’re ‘saving time and money,’ but you’re actually slowly turning your brand into something generic like all the other brands out there using AI tools.”
Aw yeeeah Star Trek is goin' straight up Tennessee Williams with Kirk/Spock/La'an
