French-Swedish UI game engine plumber, textile tangler (Fibraquarelle) and glassblower-in-training. DIYing public health since 2020. Ranter extraordinaire. Queer. No pronouns, else they/iel/hen.

Meanwhile one of the big anarchist accounts On Here is reposting a No Starch Press pillar shilling for agentic coding and that takes no heat whatsoever, priorities amarite

Putting a pin in that one to watch later because as an *actual* harm reductionist (shocker, the queer anarchist does not actually want covid lockdowns again and is deeply sympathetic to safer sex and drug use practices) seeing this misuse of the word has been driving me batshit

Mystery AI Hype Theater 3000, ep 82 www.buzzsprout.com/2126417/epis... … in which @savasavasava.myatproto.social joins @alexhanna.bsky.social and me for a good hard look at “harm reduction” as misapplied to “AI”.

This might be a bit niche, but it’s very annoying hearing of organisations saying “well it’s the law to segregate trans people so hands are tied” when most of them respond to accessibility law with “eh who’s gonna catch us?”

Free story idea: The Little Match Girl but she gets arrested because she lives in Amélie-les-Bains-Palalda (where there's currently a curfew for under-15s because a couple kids started a fire)

Highly recommend making an effort to get to know your coworkers enough to find allies in, say, pushing back against AI bullshit. And if you can afford to be the visible, vocal but ever-polite stick in the mud, do that

Imagine analyzing which platforms people spend time on, going "social media usage peaked in 2022 then went down", and ignoring the unmasked elephant in the unventilated room in your analysis. HEY I WONDER IF ANYTHING HAPPENED IN 2020 THAT AFFECTED ONLINE BEHAVIOR, BIG IF TRUE

LMFAO Nvidia has a new UI framework with "a screenshot-first inspector for AI agents". Way to tell blind users to go fuck themselves. I'm done being polite, you're all brain-boiled ableist assholes and when you have that kind of money there is NO excuse to build inaccessibility-first frameworks

Great. It's 6AM, meaning as cold as it's gonna get, and my place is... still at 25C. Cool cool cool that's definitely manageable and liveable

This sure was a great read fresh off a lengthy conversation about the complexity of building and being in community, of handling Mad abusers who are dangerous in very narrow contexts and nowhere else, of promoting harm and risk reduction without destroying yourself by aiming for perfection

I was beaten to it by the amazingly generous @mollytempleton.com but yes! The blog I was nervous about yesterday is a reality today. She’s free. She’s long. She contains multiple cat photos. www.patreon.com/MicaiahJohns...

And if you think we're any better about that in Europe because haha those silly yanks: those of us still on this beat routinely look at the US with *envy*, because you've got more people, putting on more events, and better access to better quality masks. France only wins on vaccine access

I have no idea what to do with this Covid revisionism. It feels like the bad kind of group therapy where you help each other ignore facts. We don't have to go *that* far back in the social media timelines to prove how fucked up it was. We were so scared we were scrubbing eggs and baking the mail.

Apparently a (Black, this matters) influencer from the US came to Stockholm on vacation, absolutely trashed the town as conservative and boring to a tourist expecting vibrancy, and is now going viral over it. I hope it's not white zero-eights getting pissy over it because she is completely right

I just don't think the outdoors temperature in Northern France should ever reach body temperature ("Wait didn't you post this last week already" yeah see that's kind of the problem)

(Missing alt: the headline mentioned is from The Sunday Time, "When my ADHD diagnosis was removed, it was a relief") Sweden has also been seeing a growing push against ADHD diagnoses, notably by way of fearmongering about private clinics that people go to because the wait lists are so frikkin' long

You'd have to read to the thirteenth paragraph to discover the pull quote for the title was from Marcus Siding, a 23-year-old Swedish man living in Sweden that wanted to become a cop, but his ADHD diagnosis at the age of 12 barred him by law from becoming a Swedish cop Seems relevant

'“When my ADHD diagnosis was removed, it was a relief’
Rates of conditions such as ADHD and autism seem to be ever growing, but some adults diagnosed in childhood are happy to be free of their labels”

Last repost: do not, under circumstances, make life choices that will result in people who built Ravelry's DemonTrolls paying attention to you. If I had to choose between them and gamer mobs I would just run off into the woods and disappear

[Calvin's Dad] Knitting? I'll show you something interesting. Everyone thinks internet knitters are nice little ladies having nice little lady chats about their nice little lady hobby. I cannot begin to express how wrong this is. They've *lost count* of the "yarn dyer faked her own death" incidents.

Oooh, your parasocial relationship is really showing here. What a class act. Knitters already know what exact forces keep knits together and can tell by *touch* when they're not right lol. He also got a lot of other stuff wrong, e.g. the oldest known knit socks. That's nothing to do with physics.

One thing folks urgently need to understand around LLM hype is how it brings experts as un/reliable narrators into razor-sharp focus. This has always been true - experts were always still human - but now it's getting extra-urgent

Bill Maher just went after maskers *again*, and you really have to ask, why does this victory taste so bitter in their mouths that they need to harass disabled people about it every few months? Doesn’t seem like gloating. Seems like barely contained rage painted as thin as gold leaf over fear.

What I hate about COVID downplayers is… you won okay. In the aftermath of humanity coming together to develop the most crucial vaccines of our lifetime & collectively sacrificing to save lives, we are now less safe, less vaccinated & less empathetic than ever. You won ok. Lay down your swords.
