Remember how in school the teacher made you read a little short story and then you had to determine what the theme or takeaway so to speak of it was? You can do that for posts you read to. Boil them right down. For example in this one it would be "polls are fake."

There is a pretty big flaw to the thing people are saying about AES squeaking out a win despite polls having him up big recently and that is that polls are fake.

City Learns Flock Accessed Cameras in Children's Gymnastics Room as a Sales Pitch Demo, Renews Contract Anyway

Residents of Dunwoody, Georgia are furious about the city's surveillance contract with Flock. Do their elected officials care?

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

Love how @itsbabs.bsky.social educates & tells it like it is without shaming or using the frustrated tone I sometimes have bc IT’S FRUSTRATING to see 99.7% of you disregard your health while harming others by not masking in public spaces like work, transit & HOSPITALS. Fine ignore me, but hear this👇

if you think you’d don’t know anyone with longcovid, but you don’t use any mitigation yourself, consider: yes you do, they just may not feel safe enough to tell you.

I’ve said this often on here, but it continues to be extremely disheartening to hear colleagues proudly describe their research (or teaching!) process that includes AI and not see how what they do is not research. like it’s genuinely wild to me.

"History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts" I remain astounded by how loud and wrong people are about what history actually is.

I haven't heard people talking about this, but AI is an absolute game changer for doing historical research. History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts— a massive logistical/memory problem made so delightfully easy with agentic research. 1/

I did an OCR conversion of all my PDFs to make text files, built a semantic search index, and can just let my agents roam free to answer questions, fact-check, dig up interesting stories, quotes, etc. It takes a lot of the hard work out, as well as a lot of the human error. 2/2

New function creep just dropped. Defended by the same tired logic: "it’s not the technology that’s the problem, it is how it is used.” 🙄 In this case, it is promoted as a means to improve use of work space, but in actuality, it’s tracking bodies via heat signatures. www.cbc.ca/player/play/...

Why are some Quebec employers installing heat sensors under work desks?

Some Québecor divisions are installing heat sensors around their offices to make better use of hybrid workspaces. A number of employees say the new technology feels invasive.

This fucking dumbass doesn't seem to realize that plenty of right wing agitators have tried and failed to propogate here. And it's because the devs gifted us with the nuclear block. So they got bored and left. But sure, try and get more fash and reactionaries over here I guess.

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

This is the tragic yet logical result of a decades-long project—undertaken by rightwing politicians and “business-minded” administrators alike—to distort the meaning of higher education, to deny the intrinsic value of the pursuit of knowledge, to deprive us all of richer, more purposeful lives.

President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v

Please share far and wide. NYC’s Civics For All Comics Group’s Know Your Rights comic is available FREE digitally and has been translated into 14 languages. Also, for educators, there is a resource guide and lesson plan in the collection available here: www.weteachnyc.org/resources/co...

The “best” thing about genAI (the quotes are doing heavy work here) is that it’s really lowered the bar on getting into hand-made art. Literally anything you make is better than ai. There’s never been a better time to throw away your fear and start learning that craft you’ve always wanted to learn.

When people die and the media says they had “pre-existing conditions”… they’re pacifying the public. Anyone could die from Cyclosporiasis, but they want you to believe it can’t happen to you. It can only happen to the weak, the disabled, the elderly. The expendable people. Eugenics.

Two Deaths Linked to Cyclospora Outbreak in Michigan

The patients had “significant underlying health conditions” that may have contributed to their deaths, health officials said.
