Today, on the school I spotted a new long tail cargo bike arriving at school with kids on the back. I know they had a trial of a Limerick cargo bike via @pfitzp.bsky.social earlier in the year - it is so great to see how trials do result in people swapping the car for a bike to do the school run.

Three transition-year students from Mungret Community College in Limerick - Juno Loughran (16), Laura Pietruszkiewicz (16) and Dolmarian Ugwuagbo (15) – told the gathering at Leinster House that 20 per cent of boys cycle to their school, but just 2 per www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2026...

🧵 If you are not familiar with the City of Limerick you don’t understand culture, life or art. It’s one of those world cities that beats with the zeitgeist. It was seat of the only Irish Soviet & left wing when the Irish theocracy was far right socially. Its authors & poets were alternative … [1]

"Cars are the most absurd means of transport in a city. They are parked 95 per cent of the time. It takes two tonnes to move someone who weighs 70 kilogrammes. And the denser the city, the more absurd it is." It’s not wrong. #UrbanTruth

The city’s transition away from the car, tho fantastically chaotic, has become a global role model. Under mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social, Paris was “the most influential city in the world”, says Canadian urbanist Brent Toderian. Hidalgo, stepping down after 12 yrs, exulted: “The bike beat the car.”

Great thread on using ecargo bike from @skehillr.bsky.social , Ronan trial led one of our cargobikes to get a feel for what works for hi I'm... Result, 100km done on his own bike since October, and family having a blast on school runs... Happy cycling Ronan...

Longish thread about cycling a cargo bike around Limerick and the bike itself. After trialing a cargo bike Pat and @limerickecargobike.bsky.social - we decided to buy this bike from Decathlon. We have over 1000km done since October. We go every morning - regardless of the weather.
