BTW, we'll be publishing other book excerpts in the coming months, and we're interested in getting more on the calendar, too. If you've written a book you think might be a good fit for us, get in touch: info@fansplaining.com. We want to help share more smart fandom & culture writing with the world!

In an attempt to read for pleasure I've got my hot little paws on @tkingfisher.com's Astarion novel and WHEW BOY remember we've got vampire horror on our hands and yes I will absolutely be writing a review for Rascal. (it's very good, i've put my kindle in another room to get work done)

As long as you identify yourself directly and personally with the cultural objects you like you will find critique intolerable, regardless of the quality of the critique or the object

god i really want to restart my newsletter but substack isn't really an ethical option anymore. maybe a plain ghost site? a beehiv? monetizing my newsletter isn't a goal, so i'd like to keep it as low cost as possible

This piece is about my character, but it's also about the changes that happen at a table when violence against children is always a possibility. It's about seeing a gun as another member of your family, and what happens when you internalize that your best quality is your aim.

Playing a fifteen year old boy named Godammit made my twenty-session campaign of Apocalypse World smaller, angrier, fiercer, and forced me to be more honest about the place of violence in our game. At the end of the campaign, Godammit looked at a weapon and called it brother.

I'm going through pitches for @fansplaining.bsky.social and we're getting a lot of pitches for sports fandom that are... questionable, but none as questionable as the pitch that i am desperate to see: an analysis of Sports RPF and the Omegaverse using Erling Haaland/Jude Bellingham as a case study

unequipped to emotionally deal with the end of a 20-session Apox World campaign tomorrow. : ))))) everyone light a candle tonight for Godammit.

Extremely telling to me that the first pull to publish fics from The Pitt are both mohabbot fics and not fics from either of the way more popular gay ships...

I feel like I've read dozens of this blog... but I'm looking for blogs or articles that boil down to "yeah, going to cons can suck, but as a game designer, it's invaluable to be at conventions, and to have your game at conventions -- even if it's at a third-party vendor." Can anyone help me out?

As a longtime fanfiction reader (and occasional fic writer), I am deeply concerned about the way AI is impacting fandom spaces. @fansplaining.bsky.social was the perfect place to explore this anxious curiosity in the context of the booming Heated Rivalry fandom.

I've been looking at AI in fic spaces since these tools were released to the public, and it's not surprising that HR—huge numbers of new readers & writers in fandom, a promise of Manacled-like deals in the air—was where this melted down. @kaytiburt.bsky.social does a fantastic job reporting this:

i am just so grateful i live in the world at the same time as people who are making omegaverse world cup tiktoks and calling it cleated rivalry i just think i am v blessed
