Around eight million books were destroyed in Kharkiv yesterday. Many Ukrainians are responding by buying books from the affected publishers and from KnyhoLand, the bookstore chain that also used the warehouse. I bought these today.

The librarian at my local public library told me yesterday that my debut novel would be on the shelves in 24 hours. I was counting down the hours. So cool to see my book in the library, covered in plastic, complete with bar code and tag F KAD. I might just visit it ever day.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 7: Getting an agent is difficult. Agents are picky abut who they represent. That's because they get 15-20% commission of their clients' earnings. So they need to believe they can secure a lucrative enough deal for their client to make representing them worthwhile.
