Yes, absolutely. For example, if in the next few weeks, Trump sends ICE officers to polls, you know what you do? You go anyway, you throw them a middle finger, and you walk into the ballot box and don't let them intimidate you. What you don't do is despair and stay home.

I said this in a thread last night and in a thousand threads before it, but you really are doing the work of those who would destroy democracy and the rule of law when you are a doomer. You can be aware of — and vigorously oppose — the lawlessness of this administration without insisting on doom.

@newyorkjets.bsky.social Demario Davis showing up today in some great PSAs on voting/election safety and breast cancer prevention. Can’t say I love the Jets (or the Saints), but I love seeing great NFL players spreading important messages.

Ossoff is acting like Trump/MAGA/GOP and what they’ve done to the country is Actually Bad. Charismatic and well spoken, which sure helps. But no “my friends across the aisle,” no acting like the imaginary “Baileys” are the only ones who matter, no “don’t talk values, only kitchen table.” That’s it.

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

This is a moral atrocity and it needs to be loudly condemned as such. There is a reason that democracies *don't* do publicly televised executions (and why many don't execute people at all): it inculcates and rewards bloodthirst, which corrupts the spirit and corrodes the foundation of the polity.

Universities bring in foreign students ... to undercut the wages of American residents? What? This is exactly backwards. Foreign students subsidize the tuition of American students. I wonder why the VP who follows Nazis online has this all wrong. Probably an innocent, non-racist mistake.

Vance: "Some of America's most elite universities bring in foreigners to undercut wages of American residents. There are 9 universities in particular we believe merit an investigation. Those are Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Brown, the University of Pittsburg, UC Davis, Cal Tech, Arizona State, and MIT."

Important thread. We’re moving backwards on so many things it’s hard to keep up. College is formative for many young adults in the US. For too many women it’s also where they first experience sexual assault and institutional callousness to their trauma.

The main reason you haven’t heard about campus sexual violence in a few years is because Trump and SCOTUS have made it much, much harder for survivors to come forward. You might vaguely remember that Title IX was a big battleground in his first term. And that we lost.

Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵

I was raised in ‘80s/‘90s Nashville, the buckle of the Bible Belt. AS A CHILD I learned to fend off Christian adults who just wanted to have a nice chat re: (1) whether I accepted Christ as my lord and savior, (2) the good news (he is risen!), (3) was I concerned about my immortal soul, 1/

Can't you respect the agency and choices of your neighbor *while* evangelizing? Now, if you as an evangelist don't take no for an answer, and *especially* if you want to actually enact violence on people and groups for the sake of "evangelism," I believe that's your problem, and a problem it is.

L’shana tova u’metukah. May the new year 5787 bring joy and finally give relief to those in pain, peace to those in conflict, freedom to the oppressed and justice to the victims of genocide in China, the DRC, Myanmar, Israeli-occupied Palestine, Sudan and Russian-occupied Ukraine.

A president desperately stifling the free press in a democracy is inherently weak - afraid that the voters will discover the truth of his failures and turn against him. But @nytimes.com invariably characterizes Trump as powerful. Another way our press distorts reality in service to Trump.

New York Times headline:

How Trump Is Wielding Power to Stifle Speech
President Trump has harnessed agencies across the government to curtail press freedoms, a sweeping campaign that free speech advocates say will have lasting effects.

9/11 victim Michael Massaroli’s son: "You do my dad's legacy & the legacy of all victims no honor using this tragedy to spread hate. I've had to spend 25 years seeing people use it to hate on our Muslim brothers & sisters, people who don't look like them."
