I think the thing that really breaks my brain in this day and age is watching insurance companies continuously deny payouts in order to boost shareholder value while at the same time witnessing direct pleas from community organizations trying to help people survive disasters

Like my friend here, I too grew up dirt poor. Hell, sometimes dirt pitied us for our poverty. Like, one box of malt-o-meal to feed a family of 4 for 7 days poor. School food programs in OK, AR, and CA made sure I got to eat at least once daily, usually with a some vegetables. Feed ALL kids.
I grew up poor--dead poor--and was able to eat because of free lunch programs. Meanwhile, one of my school friends, Angel, grew up very well-to-do. Rich parents, nice house. Mother who thought fatness was a crime and all carbs made you fat.
If you or a loved one is new to having Long Covid or ME/CFS, I wrote up two things that can help: 1) Newbie's guide: www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/open... 2) A story about self-acceptance after becoming disabled: gavagai.com/posts/3894

There is no joy in the world so uplifting as Lucy getting french fries.
you know what we haven’t done in awhile….
Goddamnit. Best damned comics and tech “dad joke” I have ever seen, and Gail thought of it first!
I turned on "Anti-Smoothing" on my comixology app and now Gambit doesn't speak with an accent.

It’s ONE WEEK until release date AND book launch for Offerings for Ordinary Gods!!!! Ahhhhhhhh!
Surgery in the morning. Not looking forward to that, but I am looking forward to some pain relief.
Growing older is the chance to learn just how wrong most of your youthful stances and opinions turned out to be.
I have to remember that someone saying “You’re smart” on the internet just means “you and I have the same biases.”
I feel like the only on in my social media circles not watching the World Cup and it’s weird.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a D&D monster, in possession of existence, is in want of an adventuring party to adopt it. #D&D
Doing home network configuration trying to fix a problem I introduced. Turned out to be the simplest of mistakes when I did an earlier update and forgot to change a default setting. I used to do this for a living and now I make rookie mistakes. There are not enough facepalm emojis for this.
Everyone has one genuinely weird friend. In my circles, it’s probably me.
I’m years late to the party, but Sinners might just be one of the best stories I have ever seen.
Still largely sidelined by pain. It’s hard to focus and even my cat tries to keep me in bed.
I’ve been dealing with crazy amounts of pain. I’ve been zero productive for 4 days now. If you’re waiting on me for something, I haven’t forgotten you, I just haven’t been up to any tasks.
Just paid the service that cleans my home once a month and let me tell you, as an aging, disabled human their help improves the quality of my life by 1000%.
My tattoo of @alwayscoffee.bsky.social’s #tinypoem from 2019 is all healed up and looking amazing. Every one of my tattoos has a personal meaning to me, and this one is the most powerful. I have words that speak into being a version of myself as seen by another. It’s a powerful totem.
In April, I asked for artists for a personal project. I researched and contracted with @sakuraazzzz.bsky.social. She took my 50% deposit, went silent, and delivered nothing. My first email went unanswered. My second was answered after I opened a PayPal dispute, where they asked me to withdraw it.
Here in Las Vegas Roberto’s Tacos are mid at bast.
Here I invite you to be a micro-heretic. To bring small shame on your people. Tell me about a highly praised thing in your hometown/area that all locals LOVE except YOU. I’m from the Seattle area. Taco Time is nothing special. Bland. Not horrible but not worth going out of your way. Now you go!
Your semi-annual reminder that the best way to honor deceased veterans is to stop making so damned many of them.
