Sending love to Jason Arday's family and friends. He was subject of sustained and malicious media attacks which were no doubt more vicious because he was Black. We must now reflect on the impact of a trial by some of the media and online on someone under extreme pressure.

I’m an academic of colour who happens to also be autistic in this country and I’m gonna need some time to process the horrors that led to his death
Coming online briefly to express sorrow, rage, love and solidarity for colleagues of the global majority, especially in higher education. If you need to speak, rage, grieve, just sit with someone, drop me a line. Hold each other close
There're going to be a lot of 'he was no saint' pieces penned by the same guys who wept for Rod Liddle.
“The campaign of misinformation was too much for Jason, who was a gentle man and who always wanted to see the best in everyone,” the family said, adding that Arday had been “subjected to a campaign of sustained abuse ... by those who would leave no stone unturned in their quest to undermine him.”

The death of Jason Arday is yet another case of the barbarism and cruelty of our media in tandem with the gleeful bigotry that drives it .
So many people were openly saying he’s at risk and the press kept on making it worse
Beware those who want to vilify black people. Beware those who still want to vilify black people, after they’ve been found dead. Beware the racist. 💀

Surely we need to reflect society fairly on our boards, institutions, media, education etc
And yet this week alone, I've seen so much commentary poking holes and fun at 'DEI appointments'. You do know people have to work even harder coming from minority backgrounds.
Jason Arday has been found dead. The obsessive media focus on this one man - as if it was one of the biggest scandals in history - was disproportionate beyond belief. Push notifications, top headlines, constant investigations. And now he is dead.

Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges and admitted that he shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione read a statement describing tracking him to a conference and shooting Thompson with a 3D-printed gun equipped with a silencer. https://wapo.st/4wy3XOO
The richest 0.1% of Americans hold nearly as much wealth as the bottom 90% of families combined. We need a wealth tax now.
This is the coverage of Arday **just in the Telegraph** in the UK. This is only the first four pages of results, just in one outlet.
Sickened by the news that Jeff Bezos’ consortium has bought roughly a third of Liverpool Football Club. Many fans have rightly focused on Amazon’s anti-union practices, its treatment of workers, and the fear that Liverpool will become just another asset in a billionaire’s portfolio.

It feels great to be an MP again. Now I can get back to never going to Parliament, never visiting Clacton, never holding any surgeries and doing fuck all for the people who voted for me.
#unitetheunion picket @ Stamford Hill Garage today. #Climatechange is now. Bus workers demand air-con in cabs, hydration breaks & decent toilet facilities. #Arriva can afford it. They made £108m profit in 2024. #30degreemaxlegalworklimitnow @socialistworker.bsky.social

BREAKING: A Glasgow dad has launched a crowdfunder to take Tommy Robinson to court for defamation Quroum Beg was targeted with death threats after Robinson falsely accused him of being an 'invader' who was filming children in a local park
With their 3 candidates receiving 28, 18, and 15 votes, the Monster Raving Loony Party did an admirable job of balancing the Loony vote in Clacton. Shame that the single member first-past-the-post thing will take the shine off the achievement. Might have been a bit shy of a quota as well.

Yesterday, on the hottest day of the year so far, we saw homes set ablaze and people hospitalised. Wildfires are raging across the UK, almost 3/4's of England is now in drought, and nurses are collapsing on duty as a result the extreme heat. Burnham must start tackling the climate crisis now.
