No idea how old I was (9 or 10 maybe, but I watched the black and white Creature From the Black Lagoon. Creeped me out! Black and white Dracula, Werewolf, somehow all of that B&W stuff was all scary.

Not to insomnia-weigh-in on the concept of restorative justice, but I thought long and hard ten years ago about what I would say if someone asked what Alex Kozinski could do by way of restorative justice. (Nobody ever asked.)
Oh my fucking god stop it with the grade inflation!!!
Chronicle of Higher Education@chronicle.com · 5d agoFrom the archive: Opinion: If ChatGPT can produce the kind of “merely competent” essay that often earns a B or A-minus, the problem may not be AI alone. It may be grade inflation and a lack of clarity about what student writing is for. https://chroni.cl/4rDcjDL
There's no denying things are tough, but I gotta say, I love my students: So it's early in the term, the students are working in groups and just getting to know each other and I overhear a group of students talking about tattoos. First or second day of class.
First class of the term starts in about 21 hrs. Right now, the Inbox is at 0. Farewell old friend.
Outside the obvious timebomb of selling out trans kids to appeal to ~16 bigots in deep Ohio, an underplayed part of the whole "trans kids in youth sports" stuff is making the most psycho Little League parents the most important political demo in America. They're joy vampires for the kids themselves!
Not lying when I say there will be more people than this in my chem lecture when classes start next week.

Ed Sheeran announces his Save the Kennedy Center one man acoustic show.
On the one hand, Bessent tells everyone we are brining in billions from Venezuela. Also, on the one hand, Trump is telling everyone the Kennedy Center is broke. Kind of a shame these two dudes don't know each other.
Odd confluence of events. Saw the McConnell video today. And I am currently reading Dead But Dreaming of Electric Sheep by @paultremblay.bsky.social Too early in the book to know where its going, but jeez what a coincidence. And the book is really good. Y’all should read it.

A couple of things I remember (aside from where I was, what I was doing, etc) At about 7pm that night, our niece was born. I hope the has a happy birthday. Got on a plane to see her a month later, and we already looked like an occupied country. So many big guns at RDU. It was not comforting.
This is absolutely worth a listen. Just from listening, it is clear that the students at UH-Downtown are well served by Hope Pacheco. As a former first gen student who sees this students every day, this was a very uplifting conversation.

As a reminder… he was impeached by the House. Mitch McConnell refused to even put it to a vote in the Senate. That’s Republicans. In 2024 he was nominated by, once again, Republicans.

All I'm saying is, just about every kid in the upper midwest learns HOMES to memorize the Great Lakes. You can't just undo that with a Sharpie. And don't even get me started on the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald lyrics. 🎶🎶 "And farther below, Lake Ontario takes in what Lake Erie can send her"🎶🎶
