Long-term unemployment is a policy choice, not an individual failing. Evidence from the #Marienthal #JobGuarantee shows we can end it, and at a cost public budgets can afford. I am glad to see my work in this area recognized by the #WileyResearchHeroes Prize, in the Impact Beyond Academia category.

Heute diskutieren wir konkrete Möglichkeiten zur Umsetzung des Rechts auf Arbeit im Rahmen der #Marienthal #Jobgarantie und deren Übertragbarkeit auf Deutschland bei der G.I.B. – Gestaltung, Innovation und Beratung in der Arbeits- und Sozialpolitik GmbH in Nordrhein-Westfalen.

#Marienthal wurde 1933 zum Synonym für die Zerstörungskraft von #Arbeitslosigkeit. Nun hat die Gemeinde gezeigt, dass eine #Jobgarantie funktioniert. Für @surplusmagazin.de beleuchten @maxkasy.bsky.social & ich die Ergebnisse: Langzeitarbeitslosigkeit abgeschafft, höhere Einkommen, besseres Leben.

That's how I like to start the week. @philiprathgeb.bsky.social and I show, on Austria's case, that social insurance systems are a viable tool to reconcile strong deservingness conceptions with large-scale redistribution: they can promote solidarity while remaining politically resilient.
