does anyone know of any work that’s been done on career trajectories of (UK humanities) academics who have been made redundant? eg information about how many go into school teaching, early retirement, independent research? appreciate this is complex, sensitive and much data is too recent

Does anybody have a book recommendation about the rise and fall of US school buses, as the leading form of mass transportation? Ie what about US sprawl and transportation led them to be popular here? To what extent are recent cuts caused by the same people who don't want taxes to fund transit? etc

Other people have made this point, but it's crazy that universities haven't been supporting development of open-weight LLMs and forking over cash to the big players. I would trust LLMs way, way more if there was something that had the decentralized, open-source and repository-based structure of R.
