This was a sweet coming-of-age story about an autistic teenager going to summer camp and learning to throw out her personal restrictions she's been hiding behind through most of high school. I liked that it has lots of love and supportive friendships, with surprising depth and novelty.

anything they add that allows people to curate their experience and see the content they want is a thumbs up from me.

This is something I try to balance in my life a lot. And yes, I say that as someone who just gave 8 weeks of her life to an auction focused specifically on voting rights. That is one part of my task. At the start of the year it was whistles. Those are big things, but can't be my only things.
I’m seeing a lot of people hang their hopes and all their attention on the midterms. Electoral organizing matters, but full-time spectatorship won’t build the power we need. I wrote about checking in with yourself about where your attention is going and what you’re doing with it.
If you're looking for a more progressive "misfit enters magic school" for kids in your life, I would definitely recommend Ice Apprentices! (I think this was one of the suggestions when I posted looking for trans male POV characters, but I can't seem to find that post to thank whoever offered it 😅)

I'm not gonna touch Crime and Punishment, but it's laughably ridiculous to claim that books like Dune or The Way of Kings are disappearing 😆
EXCUSE ME?
If you're sighted and posting about "legally blind" people, and don't bother including alt text I do actually question why you're talking about them at all tbh. I'm glad you're hyped for them but do you realise they can't engage with your post?
Thrilled to announce that we’re moving to Zagreb, Croatia for MalkieriCon 2027. Now let me share why you should be mega excited. It starts with #WheelOfTime filming locations! Some of our favourite Two Rivers scenes in S1 were shot in Croatia & Slovenia, (did someone say road trips?)
It is finally time to reveal the location for MalkieriCon 2027!! Please join us 3rd - 5th September, 2027 in ZAGREB, CROATIA!! Tickets will be available for purchase soon!! #MalkieriCon #TheWheelOfTime #Croatia
Mild #FireEmblem Spoilers, but after yesterday's Nintendo Direct, I am so glad I didn't engage in any of the anxiety about which path to choose 😆
LLMs don't need to be as terrible for the environment as they are. They didn't need to be packaged as chatbots, designed to be addictive, and rolled out with no safety protocols. They didn't need to be marketed as a replacement for human labour. These were all choices made by their American owners.
I made an app! What Can't I Press helps you discover what keyboard shortcuts are already claimed by running apps, with a focus on screen readers. This helps prevent you from overriding something someone might rely on to get what they want or need. #a11y github.com/ericwbailey/...

Do any of my mutuals know of a good resource for learning #GameDev for someone who already has a solid (but web-focused) programming foundation?
👀 Everyone had a pandemic coping strategy. Mine was joining the WoT fandom. The friends I made kept me afloat! (Some are coming to visit tomorrow!)

You might have heard us say that FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is a dummy. We even made a little GIF to demonstrate his recent failure to enforce a foreign drone ban. So what's the deal with this guy, anyway? We've been covering Carr's exploits for a while now, so let us walk you through it: 🧵
In December, the US government banned foreign consumer drones, claiming that the devices posed a threat to national security. But instead of creating new US consumer drone companies, the ban is incentivizing fake ones instead. Read more from @seanhollister.bsky.social: buff.ly/3jnK87k
This is a legitimately cool accessibility feature (boosting the volume of the person you're speaking to), and it works offline, so it was really soulless for them to ever have been trying to gatekeep it from those who need it

Important reminder: "The ADA was never handed down from above. It was built by people who refused to accept that inaccessibility was simply how the world had to work, and who kept building even when the wins were incremental and the setbacks were real."

The ADA turns 36 amid quiet enforcement erosion. A look at the threats facing disability rights today, and why persistence still wins.

The "just use Linux" people need to put their money where their mouth is and come set it up for me, including getting the Windows-only applications I use for my job to function. If you cannot do that, I don't actually want to hear shit from you.
"Randolph Howard Eason" declared his company's drone was made in the United States. It wasn't. He probably doesn't exist. The FCC didn't bother to check. www.theverge.com/report/96972...
The way to understand this is to view it the way those in power do: Accessibility is something that can be automated away, just like every other concern. The fact that this is in opposition to reality is immaterial, as are the human-facing consequences. aftermath.site/xbox-layoffs...
Layoffs Leave The Future Of Xbox’s Award-Winning Accessibility Efforts In Doubt
Former workers say Xbox cuts leave less resources and experts to make sure games are developed, labelled, and tested with accessibility in mind
