Game designer and general maker of things. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/455308/this-is-not-a-game-about-a-pipe

Doing some spring cleaning and ran across some decade-old, undocumented prototype components of mine. I barely remember that I created them. Trying to deduce what they were intended to do feels a bit like @amabel.bsky.social 's City of the Six Moons. They were created. By me. But still feel alien.

Publicly posting my current WIP list to help keep me honest and focused. No telling what may come of them, but I'd like to work towards "finishing" more projects (whatever that means) rather than letting them fall by the wayside to be replaced by the new thing that pops into my head.

As I'm prototyping my latest WIP, "Throw Away, Do No Eat", I'd like to request the assistance of anyone who'd like to help me source one of the game's thematic components. If you're so inclined, you can start collecting any unused silica gel packets that may be slowly infesting your home.

Completed the campaign for Regicide Legacy! Wow! I cannot recommend this highly enough. Greatly expanding upon the elegant design of Regicide, Badger From Mars knocked this production out of the park. Incredibly tense moments, brutal defeats, and glorious victories! IMHO, best with two players.

The box for the game Regicide Legacy on a table.

I'm in exploration mode! After decades in technology, I'm actively looking for a new, yet to be determined, role. Currently the only parameters I have are what I don't want: Non-tech Non-management Non-marketing Non-ai Know of something good for an ex-techie? Give me a buzz.

For those following along, here's the bit from the ARS DMCA takedown notice sent to BGG that demonstrates one of the problems creating a weak public domain. ARS doesn't have to identify the expiration of the copyright. They can continue to claim it as long as it's impossible to prove otherwise.

An email snippet with the text "While the original artwork was created in 1929, copyright in the US begins running on the date of first publication in the US. We do not have a record that the original artwork was published in the US on a date that places the work in the public domain, and, therefore, the work is still protected by copyright in the US. The work is also still protected in other Berne-signatory countries worldwide."

Well, it was a nice run. I got this geekmail last night. When I self-published This Is Not a Game About a Pipe, I thought, as many did, that The Treachery of Images was now in the public domain. 1/4

Ok, fellow game designers! Here's your opportunity to run with a theme that inspires you and is outside the industry zeitgeist! Sadly, due to a need to focus on alternate employment, I won't have the time to participate in this year's jam, but I can't wait to see your new games using old themes!

Happy public domain day! Come join our jam "Gaming Like It's 1930" and make games that about or inspired by works from that year: itch.io/jam/gaming-l...
