Some late Friday news: Portland's city hearings office has upheld the land use violation issued against the owner of Portland’s ICE building. That means the city can begin issuing fines against the owners. More soon.
Huge turnout tonight for a protest over ICE killing Lorenzo Salgado Araujo on Tuesday Magnolia Park, Houston. Video is from my colleague Macy Meinhardt, who is not on Bluesky but is on the scene.
I hate how it's a news story every time racists decide to march around in their racist clothes. They walk around every day without the uniforms while people insist they don't exist.

Hey - I just wanted to say that last year I asked Councilor Kanal to look into an abandoned massive housing project in my neighborhood, and not only did he look into it, the city funded the gap with some of that extra housing money - so now a new developer will actually finish the project this year.
A handful of councilors say an ordinance--not a budget amendment--could still save jobs and accomplish what council couldn't during the budget adoption process. A competing ordinance is expected. If the council ends up deadlocked as they often do, the mayor could be the deciding vote.

Having a colleague talk about defunding police accountability as a precondition to voting yes on the City Budget is one of the more bizarre arguments I've heard in 18 months, and that's saying something.
The Oregon Secretary of State’s office has opened an investigation into allegations of misconduct against a campaign to divert PCEF funds to police. The state has so far received 28 of these complaints, which allege petitioners are misleading voters about the proposal or its funding source.
