A ★★★★ review of Tenet (2020)
If one were to come up with an apt description for Christopher Nolan, it would be that he is a thinking man's blockbuster director. Many of his films, from The Prestige to Inception, have been well regarded their nonlinear stories as well as his penchant for mixing science fiction and philosophies with action thrillers. Tenet is another in his long line of mind bending films that also appeal to the mainstream. It has a lot of what we have come to expect from him while still keeping things fresh and interesting. Here's some concept art of the Abstract Thought scene from Inside Out painted by Albert Lozano. This scene in the film really does feel like a nice tribute to Chuck Jones and Maurice Noble, as it does feel something out of their shorts The Dot and the Line and High Note.
A big problem I have with modern "criticism" is how people now think that average means bad. Anything less than an 8/10 or 9/10 means that it is on par with something actually awful. Everything has to be either "absolute cinema" or "the worst thing ever made" with no room in between.

Unfortunately, I don't think that would necessarily stop some of the toxic online fanbase from still making a fuss about it.
Sasquatch@nerdysasquatch.bsky.social · 4d agoThis is another reason why we need disclosure laws to force studios and publishers to admit if AI was used or not so people are informed and creators don't get falsely accused of using it.
Whether it's the wacky version or the more jealous, egotistical one that Chuck Jones helped create, this duck is one of the funniest characters in animation history.

‘Coyote vs Acme’ will triumphantly release in theaters this month on August 28th. The film suffered almost being permanently shelved by Warner Bros. for a tax writeoff despite heavy backlash from audiences and bids from other studios. Ultimately, Ketchup Entertainment bought the film rights.
When Wildwood comes out, I hope Laika keeps the tradition of having a work in progress clip as well as updates to their logo at the end.
