The games industry is by and large run by people who do not understand how games are made or what gives their business value. Hell I doubt many of them even care about games beyond the money it could make them. Business idiots are a sickness in our industry.

Let me scream into the void for a bit. I hate that an art form that I love has been turned into quick money corporate grifts. Way too many people seem to be happy with shipping whatever gets the job done instead of caring for producing good quality software.

The sad thing is that it’s quite common, FAANG have in some part taken an artistic field and reduced it to a shortcut for “easy money” Despite the fact that like any art, programming is not easy, it takes years to hone the skill and care.
qim@queerinmech.bsky.social · 4w agoone time i was teaching a programming class of adult students and casually said something like "programming should be fun" and one guy stared out into deep space and just said "this is fun to you?" my heart kinda broke for him, he was definitely in the wrong field
"I only use LLM to do boiler plate code." Skill issue. I write templated code that generates anything I'd want to do with boiler plate at compile time. Complaining about boiler plate is the surest sign that you never learned how to use a computer, and the last person who should be trusted with AI.

I feel like I’m slowly losing my mind to how my entire field, and an artform I love, is being destroyed by capitalism and how people don’t seem to care. People will get upset about AI art in a game but be fine with AI code. Code is the pillar holding a game together, it’s art too!!
