The horror of a rogue optimizer isn't that it's an evil bastard lashing out because of a (perceived) slight. A rogue optimizer can be relatively speaking pretty fucking dumb, the problem is it's dumb *very quickly*, and we might not be able to stop it.

I am doing an author event THIS WEEKEND and this will be the first time I've been responsible for my own point-of-sale. Anyone have veteran advice? Right now, I'm planning on taking Venmo or cash. I don't really have time to get a card reader.

There is a difference between someone trying to explain that you genuinely have a distorted sense of yourself - and false flattery meant to make you feel better. But like, if you put yourself down - that is read by a lot of people as fishing for compliments. So, they think that's what you WANT.

One of the troubles is that a lot of trans women are autistic and consequently struggle with the whole concept of "accepting" something you fundamentally believe to be untrue.

I have a topical short story ready to go out on Patreon. Synopsis: a transgender girl attends school for the first day of the 26/27 academic year, in a totally normal* UK high school. * if it were actually normal this would definitely categorise the story as fiction. Massive transphobia cw.
