Another person died in Allegheny County Jail yesterday. A 55-year-old man, found unresponsive. We mainly use jails to hold people for the crime of mental illness, substance use disorder, or poverty. This needs to stop. Decarcerate now.

I know we elect these judges… I wish the road toward accountability was easier. The power trip some of them have… and how it shows up as horrid racism and classism when their power is questioned or confronted.
And I find it really gross to see that preservation of the status quo is more important to Judge Evashavik than justice in the room. Impossible not to notice who she’ll threaten to send from the room, and who she’ll defend.
At the Jail Oversight Board meeting today, Judge Evashavik paused the meeting to offer support to a white man, John Kenstowicz, who emailed the full unredacted n word three times to County Council, earning a rebuke from the council and upsetting Black community members
I’ve been to a lot of funerals and I’ve never witnessed the level of community and care that I’ve witnessed at an Islamic funeral. I have never seen respect and love for the deceased like I’ve seen from the Muslim community.
JOB Update: The jail oversight board voted to continue the commissary support with a reduction to $100. The funds will now also be dispersed on the first and the 15th instead of only once on the first of the month. The board will have to vote to continue the fund starting in February of next year.
This Wednesday, the Jail Oversight Board will be voting to determine the fate of commissary support given to incarcerated folks in the ACJ. Most of the board who wanna stop the support intentionally skipped the regular August meeting and scheduled this at a time where most people can't attend. #job
