I don't have any particular tea about this at the moment. That's my evergreen take on efforts to stymie grassroots organizing for reclaiming our public infrastructure that comes from across the political spectrum. Short term wins still out there; medium to long term we will win.

“The 2026 honorees represent a commitment to the core values of science, choosing transparency over reputation ... Their actions remind us science is strongest when researchers are committed to following the evidence wherever it leads, even when that means correcting their own work.”

I'm incredibly honored to be one of the inaugural winners of the Ctrl-Z award. The sequence of events preceding and following this retraction were harrowing (and are honestly still stressful), but I hope this will be an opportunity for more open dialogue about mistakes + self-retraction in science.

These women are being held in the Brasile South Louisiana I.C.E. Processing Facility.🚨 Some have been there for months, separated from their families. One woman was recently put in solitary confinement for releasing a prior video. Multiple reports of abuse from male #ICE agents. Spread the word.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

A Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling this year targeted the practice of automatically sentencing people to life in prison without parole for felony murder, a doctrine allowing prosecutors to charge someone for murder even if they didn’t commit a killing.

Though I don't find persuasive his call for more "honesty" (which in my experience is a problem endemic mainly to the most privileged), I enjoyed Yotam Marom's piece very much and agree with his diagnosis of conflict-avoidance as a major problem in US Left culture. convergencemag.com/articles/yot...

We are not going to sue or criminalize our way out of state violence. That is feeding what we are fighting. We are not going to “hold them accountable” unless we take away their jobs, money, legitimacy & power AND divest from logics & structures they uphold. Ending QI does none of those things.

1. Fire all employees on week 1 of a Democratic administration. Everyone. No exceptions. 2. Start now to pull together state-based ICE People's Assemblies. Collect testimonies about impacts on your communities. Release reports by December 2028. 3. REPARATIONS for all ICE victims - $$ & citizenship

I’m interested in any political imagination for accountability. It has to be proactive & retroactive. It has to be spectacular. And, ideally, it would leave so many of them broke that it actually becomes a deterrent. Being poor is truly all they care about not because they don’t care about prison.
