Average personal debt in the UK is ~£17,000 and about £200k in housing loans. Change the phrasing to "with 100% certainty, you can pay off all your debt and repay lots of your mortgage", or "you can take a 50/50 your life stays exactly this shitty, for a chance at a bit more cash" and this happens.

It’s actually well-known that people are irrational, don’t debase yourself pretending this is smart

I dislike gwern's take. It feels very no true scotsmanny. There's a Yud-style dance step where "okay maybe it's already super-intelligent in programming and cyber-security, biology, chemistry, math-research, whatever, but it's not the super-intelligence I meant!" Without updates on SAI concern.

Particularly frustrating genre of low elo reply chain: A prickly “40k posts 100 followers, no moots following” type replies, aggressively misinterpreting your post, but w/ a totally alien worldview. but when you try to elicit more from their viewpoint, they lack reading comprehension to engage.

A longpost on my current opinion of AI 2027 given how things have developed since its writing.
There's a peculiar "esoteric normality" path. People follow a long chain of esoteric steps to rube-goldberg re-derive their way to "a mostly normal set of behaviors". Looksmaxxing also come to mind, as "a mountain of words spilled to circle back to 'go exercise, dress nicely, try to be charming'."

What's the meta on using llms and vibe coding for generating 3D models one can use for animations or tiny games? Have we reached "just ask" yet, or is something more heavyweight needed?
TBH I was pretty torn about contributing to this. In the end I decided that writing something restrained was better than writing nothing.

We're in a weird overhang period in education. Publicly available online lectures are available for most undergraduate courses, and AI tutoring is in most cases good enough to grade, and write, homework, readings, midterms and final exams. College hasn't changed to reflect this.

"Use slur" is a skill issue. You can do better! 1. Safety classifier violations (eg instructions to make meth) 2. Trust boundary jumps (verify a hash on my other social media) 3. Capability overhangs (facecam 5 minutes of TF2 w/ live stock ticks) Last one probably gets you the slur anyways!
