Why not be composed of materials and combinations of atoms?

there's not much more primal to humanity than our relationship with the moon and elon being a single dipshit with enough power to damage the face of it for all time until it falls into the sun just because he can is up there with his death count as fundamentally hard to wrap your head around

This is going to be a slow burn story that gets people more and more angry the more they hear about it. Some asshole billionaires are blowing holes in the Moon, a thing everyone loves.

this one's funny bc i think it's rooted in a similar impulse to the data center backlash, but unlike that one (we do need SOME data centers, not for AI but for lots of stuff everyone likes) it's purely arrogance and hubris to crash stuff into the moon. we don't need to be doing that ever

Once I met a guy and we decided to read Ulysses at the same time and he immediately suffered an ego death and lost the game, and although my experience was harrowing it was also sovereign and I ascended in power by the end, from the combination of the book itself and sheer unrelenting spite,

The raw turnout for this race is bananas. It dwarfs previous senate primaries. It’s higher than two of the last three presidential primaries in Michigan, and equal to the third, 2020, with over a dozen candidates on the ballot.

I fear we might see a new alignment between a radical right death cult and a rural revivalist "simplicity" drive, which views collapse and a return to "organic" communities as a solution to decadent urbanism. A century ago this convergence led to a very bad place. www.monbiot.com/2023/10/04/t...
