I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard to wake up and be hopeful. But I woke up, and I still have the rest of the day to be hopeful.

I refuse to let the next 4 years ruin the time I have here. I will have joy. I will laugh. I will rest. I will dance. I will sing. I will spend time with folks I love. I will find ways I can help my community. I will find the beauty. I will hold on to peace. I will live. I will have joy.

It is simply not enough for universities to say, “Our grants & research offices are looking into how research will be affected by the latest directive.” University leaders must actively and very publicly make the case for the kind of work many of us do. The silence on this front is deafening.

This is the longest January I can remember and it’s still not over.

I've heard a number of people say, "I live in a safe blue district/state--there's no point in calling my reps since they're already on the right side." Yes, there is: You can call and insist that they be among the loudest voices on the issues you care about, since they can afford to be.

If you live in Wisconsin, you need to get involved with Susan Crawford's campaign now. Far-right activists have been talking about this race since November. If you live out of state, consider phone banking for crawford or throwing dough to her campaign or grassroots groups organizing for her.

I recently reposted a former congressional staffer who said that when an issue got 20-30 calls it would get representatives freaked out and ready to do something. It takes less than you’d think, because so few people actually take that kind of action

Worth remembering that it was a coup attempt--an attempt to steal Congress's powers and turn the presidency into a dictatorship--and that pushing back mattered. Thanks to everyone who raised a ruckus....
