In hindsight, my initial assessment that Astro Bot feels less like a celebration of PlayStation's history and more like a eulogy... ...was absolutely right on the money. That is going to be a /hard/ game to return to. Kind of impossible not to think about how bad things have gotten at this point.

Just had one of the most "by the skin of my teeth" wins of my entire gaming career against the final boss of Final Fantasy VII Remake on hard mode. Cloud and Barret were dead, I was completely out of MP, and I was chipping away at those last slivers of the boss's HP on a hope and a prayer.

Ran into a glitch during the Ghoul boss in Final Fantasy VII Remake where Aerith got grabbed and thrown through a wall, ejecting her from the arena and putting her in a spooky, unlit timeout corner for the rest of the fight.

I think it's safe to say after playing a good 10-ish hours of Splatoon Raiders that this is one of the best Switch 2 exclusives at present, right up there with DK Bananza and Pokopia. Insane to think I've gotten more fun and joy out of my Switch 2 in one year than I got out of my PS5 in ~5.5 years.

Actually, I'm going to zoom out a bit and say I find how Bowser's Fury is structured in general to be more annoying than fun. I dislike how much the gameplay revolves around "Is Bowser going to wake up soon? Do I have time to go for this next shrine, or should I just wait for him to do his thing?"

22. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Yeah, sorry, I still think 3D World is a 10/10 and Bowser's Fury is more like a 7. I think that's largely due in part to the Bowser gimmick, which is constantly threatening to interrupt you when you least want it to. I'll elaborate a bit more in quotes.

The past week and a half or so have been so ungodly stressful, and just as I sat down to play Splatoon Raiders earlier w/ oomf, we were met with constant disconnects. We eventually figured out a solution, and when we did I literally cried tears of joy, I was so thankful for that tiny bit of mercy.

Expect my revisit of 3D World to be even more glowing. Both are among my all-time faves, but while 3D Land is exactly how I remember it, 3D World is not (in a good way). The real test will be my reevaluation of Bowser's Fury, which I wasn't as over the moon about as most people.

21. Super Mario 3D Land I guess I forgot to post about this one the other week. 3D Land is still one of my favorite games of all time. I know people complain about how easy and simplistic it is, but dammit sometimes that's exactly what the doctor ordered. Light, breezy, pure, unadulterated fun.

And there it is. No surprises there. Anyone who's been paying any attention at all to how XIV mobile has been doing knows it's been on life support for a good long while. And if it was struggling that hard in their test market, no way was it ever coming anywhere else.

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will end service on September 30, 2026 according to developer LightSpeed Studios (Tencent Games). Launched last year in China only, plans to release a global client have also been cancelled. More:

Speaking as someone who put like 150 hours into Unity last year, it feels like Unity glazers have all been gripped by this mass hysteria that makes you believe the parkour system is the most amazing thing ever invented despite barely working half the time and looking no different than any other AC.

youtu.be/y65zq5mZ6C8 The first 30 seconds of this video are cracking me up it genuinely just looks like he's playing the game completely normal

Scaling in RPGs is so funny sometimes. Entered a new area in Ni no Kuni earlier and was getting the snot kicked out of me. Had to get carried out of every battle on a stretcher. Then I gained just two levels and all of a sudden the enemies were doing like no damage to me. What a silly numbers game.

Since finishing Mario Galaxy 2, I've moved on to Super Mario 3D Land, and while I get the complaints about how easy it is, this game is like a warm, comforting bowl of soup. It's so light and breezy. No level takes more than two or three minutes. It's just the perfect pick-up-and-play Mario game.

I do think the green stars are an improvement over Galaxy 1 asking you to replay the entire game again (even if they're still kind of lame), and weirdly enough, I think this game's Bowser/Bowser Jr. levels blow the first Galaxy's out of the water. But still, it just doesn't have the same magic.

19. Super Mario Galaxy 2 This is a rough one... because upon replay, I don't like Galaxy 2 nearly as much as I remember. It's still a good game, but way too many galaxies are just lacking in atmosphere or they're too short or they're reliant on some motion control gimmick that's terribly unwieldy.
