Some footage does exist. I downloaded two clips from (I think) an old Sega website ages ago. There were also some images of the then-president of Nintendo of America, Tatsumi Kimishima, welcoming Sonic.
According to former Sega employee Mike Fischer, when Sega signed on to publish Gamecube games, Nintendo posted a guy in a Mario costume to greet the Sonic mascot.
