Extreme heat is hitting communities across the country, yet Andy Burnham has been bafflingly silent. After the UK’s hottest summer on record, we need to see far more action. We need cross-party talks to protect Britain from worsening extreme weather.
Have the Conservatives learnt nothing from Liz Truss's disastrous mini-Budget?
It’s time to stop the Spex Offenders. Nobody should be secretly filmed through smart glasses and have it shared with millions online. Liberal Democrats are demanding stronger safeguards, including a ban on convicted sex offenders being able to purchase them.
Britain isn’t broken. It’s being held back. Held back by a system that protects failure and rewards the easy way out, instead of delivering the bold change our country needs. It’s time to set Britain free.

We can’t allow our politicians to be bought and sold. It’s time for a cap on political donations. Tag your MP and tell them to back our vote this Wednesday to take big money out of our politics and give ordinary people their voice back. @LisaSmartMP.bsky.social has all the details ⬇️
I've written to the Prime Minister ahead of his first statement later today, with a clear message: Our politics is broken and we can’t fix our country until we fix our politics.
💷Immediately fund teacher pay awards ⏰Properly enforce legally mandated working hours 🏠New guidance on flexible working 🔺Introduce reasonable limits on overtime The government must listen and introduce our emergency package of 'back to school' measures before it is too late.
They have their merits on slower/more lightly-used lines, but the proposed use of them on 100mph and high-frequency East West Rail is completely absurd, and nowhere else in the world currently uses battery trains on railways with those characteristics.
These stats will leave people worrying that if their property is burgled, the chances are the criminal responsible will never face justice. Liberal Democrats would crack down on burglaries with our Burglary Response Guarantee and ensure all cases are followed up on.

🧵 The gloomy outlook for the country’s finances will continue until the Government changes course on its anti-growth agenda. They must focus on cutting energy bills and reducing the burden on small high street businesses to boost growth and get money back into treasury coffers.

While 74% of Britons are concerned about climate change, the radical right continues to downplay its dangers, even as extreme weather is disrupting people's everyday lives and placing new pressures…

I’m deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two police officers and five members of the public in Cleveland this morning. My thoughts are with their families, loved ones and everyone at Cleveland Police. Thank you to the emergency services for their work during this difficult time.
Another week, another stunning Liberal Democrat gain from Reform. Well done to Councillor Ian Taylor and the hard working local team in Huntingdonshire!
🧵 Families are bracing for an even tighter squeeze on their budgets, with energy bills, fuel, and the weekly shop all skyrocketing. The Government needs to do much more to bring down energy bills and get our sluggish economy growing again.
Congratulations to everyone receiving their GCSE results today! You’ve worked incredibly hard and should be proud of how far you’ve come. Whatever your results, there’s so much still ahead.
Congratulations to everyone picking up their GCSE results today! A special shout out to the young carers balancing school with caring for loved ones. Juggling that responsibility takes incredible strength, and your dedication and resilience will take you far.
This is shocking. The Conservatives' new energy plan goes way past scrapping net zero – they actually want to put emissions up. After a summer of wildfires, it seems the Conservatives have completely given up on the environment and are just taking orders from Donald Trump.
Disabilities don't start at 9:30 AM, and now disabled bus passes won't either. Huge credit to Lib Dem MP Tom Gordon and campaign groups like Transport for All. Their fight against unfair restrictions has led to nationwide change for fairer, accessible transport!
Was on the 0800 018 5177 “cancel your @thetimes.com sub but we will make it difficult for you number” and they went “I just had someone else cancel over the Prof Arday coverage” Good! This is really embarrassing 👇👇
Wildfires. Heatwaves. We can all see it: climate change is here. Yet the government has given the green light to massively expand Luton airport, without stating how it can do so within the country’s emissions framework. Unbelievable.
Miles away from Farage’s stunt in Clacton, Liberal Democrats are beating Labour in Devon and Reform in Yorkshire. Stunning victories for hard working liberals - who turned up to their counts!
