New paper alert 🚨 I am super happy about it, for many reasons! 👥 It was a great collaborative project with Calum @chgjohnston.bsky.social and J. Pablo Radicella, designed a long time ago (in the pre-AlphaFold era - can you imagine?) together with @polardlab.bsky.social and @raphguerois.bsky.social

Pleased to share our recent article in PNAS - a collaboration with @jessicaandreani.bsky.social & Pablo Radicella, with important roles played by many members of each team. A tripartite protein complex promotes DNA transport during natural transformation in Firmicutes www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

From one of the leading figures in industrial cyber security 👇 It’s too early to tell if what’s happened in Spain & Portugal was caused by a cyber attack or some sort of physical activity. There’s a history of jumping to the former conclusion before the latter is proved true. We don’t yet know

Watching Spain and Portugal very closely, but please don't jump to conclusions. Lots of bizarre root causes in big power grids.

This is inaccurate. There is no known vulnerability with Signal's core tech. The memo was discussing phishing attempts, which Signal has worked to mitigate. And it was hastily reported. It's important not to spread misinfo that can confuse people into moving away from meaningfully private comms.

In case you missed it: the Pentagon--that's Hegseth--got warned about using Signal a week ago.

NEW: Security experts tell @wired.com that X was hit with 5 DDoS attacks on Monday, but that X likely went down because its infrastructure was left exposed. They also refuted Musk's claim that the attack originated in "the Ukraine area." @lhn.bsky.social reports: www.wired.com/story/x-ddos...

What Really Happened With the DDoS Attacks That Took Down X

Elon Musk said a “massive cyberattack” disrupted X on Monday and pointed to “IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area” as the source of the attack. Security experts say that's not how it works.

☀️ We've got a big new report out today☀️ A subset of the Russian info op known as "Portal Kombat" appears to be constructed not for human consumption, but machines. It's seemingly grooming LLMs to spit out RU propaganda precisely when we're taking our eyes off the regulatory ball. ⤵️

NEW: We’ve uncovered something alarming: a Russian-backed disinformation network, known as the Pravda network, is flooding the internet—and LLMs—with pro-Kremlin propaganda. Our new report reveals how this growing operation threatens democracies worldwide. www.americansunlight.org/updates/new-...

This is a big deal. I suspect we'll be hearing more and more about China surpassing the US in terms of its cyber capabilities, both in quantity and quality, over the next few months and years. Great ✍️ from @timstarks.bsky.social
