I'd like to commission a matrix mantis for my profile picture so that I can criticize AI without the hypocrisy of doing so with an AI generated profile picture. Budget: $40 Is that the kind of think you can just go around and ask people to do? I don't know how art works but I want to support it.
There's a lot of artistry that can go into the clever application of mathematics and algorithms. And there's a lot of potential to use AI as a medium for artistic expression. Remix and cover as homage is respectable. And that's all totally different than just having the AI do the art for you.
i hate that AI companies have muddied the word "generative" Generative art: procedural art created using a *system of mathematical rules designed intentionally* by the artist. AI-generated: created by automated systems (LLMs) using opaque, extractive processes unknown to both the user and viewer.
I expect that these models will really take off once the training process stops happening predominantly in datacenters and instead is mostly bound by automated wetlab efficiency.
Imagine millions of petri dishes, and a robot on rails with a microscope, studying each one and generating training data that's not found elsewhere on the internet.

Meta launched a new AI optimism ad set to a song about human extinction | TechCrunch
David Bowie's song "Five Years," which Meta used in a supposedly inspiring advertisement, is about humans learning that they have five years left to live before the apocalypse.

Someone at Meta's advertising department knew EXACTLY what they were doing when suggesting the song.
“You’re a schmuck for following the rules“ is how we badly damage society. “Rich and/or famous people can escape accountability forever” is how we destroy it for good.
It really does matter which rules. Given that the culprits now make the rules, we're going to have to break some to hold them accountable.
I've just learned that my mother in law is interesting in some app called grafenose. It's like spaghetti-o's except deep down it's #GrapheneOS
I told fable that we were going to stop designing an implementing, and stop to polish and hunt bugs. A few hours later: > The polish era arguably just claimed its first scalp: a test built to check portability found and killed a remote DoS on day one. Scalps? Jeez fable, get help.
Stop calling them peptides! The public doesn't know what a peptide is, the use of the term in laymen is a huge PR/marketing push by grifters! Call them what they are: untested synthetic hormones!
Astonishing. RFK Jr. adds 8 members to a 6 member FDA advisory panel. 6 of them were sellers of peptides, and the 7th a compounding pharmacist. In an 8-6 vote with all 8 votes coming from these new panel members, the panel approved 4 peptides against the objections of FDA scientists.
We gotta stop treating money like it's a workable proxy for consent.
Many of my coworkers aren't merely MAGA, if you follow the org chart upwards, you end up with people who are involved with the Trump administration. One thing I've noticed about the environment that selected those people as leaders:
Velveeta isn't cheese, which always makes finding it in a new grocery store a bit of an Orwellian exercise. Don't ask what it is, the answer would do you damage, but categorize it well enough to find it nonetheless. Its a very American experience.

The Luddites were right by the way. They were violently suppressed by the military, working on behalf of the factory owners. Chartists and other activists took up the fight of Luddism to win us back worker rights. George, just have a read of this mate: tomhumberstone.com/luddites

Kudos to Andreas 💐 Thousands of us at Google organized against the company’s Maven contract nearly 10 years ago, even though principles like this existed. We saw no hope that such principles would survive bottom line pressure—nor were they legally drafted to do so.

I work at Google DeepMind. This won't make me popular. But it's all public reporting: 2014: DeepMind reportedly sold to Google on conditions: no military use, independent oversight 2026: a Pentagon contract for "any lawful government purpose" Not one safeguard survived intact
I wish I could get www.buffalofieldcampaign.org 's take on this. Was this buffalo avenging a lost family member by taking down a human?

What is it about crushing people under their boot that turns people into such whiney bitches? Poor Elon, his kind has suffered so much. They're barely getting by.

The problem isn't that our food is engineered. The problem is that the engineers don't have "make it healthy" among their goals.

Thirteen Democratic House members and candidates announced their support for a centrist initiative aimed at pushing back against the party’s tilt toward democratic socialism.
Signs of sabotage, apparently. Who are these crazy people going around slicing up the ground?
What if it's the slime that's been calling the shots all along? It would explain quite a lot.
