To any Hungarians annoyed that Americans are placing the credit for your momentous victory on the shoulders of our stunningly repellent little weasel of a VP: you are correct to feel that way, I'm sorry, we just want to seize any available oppurtunity to humiliate him specificially

Reading Marco Rubio’s speech about how “western civilization” is about embracing God, rejecting the foolish ideal of cosmopolitanism, and celebrating the genius of bands like The Beatles who were founded by the guy who wrote that song about a world with no countries or the concept of heaven & hell.

That infamous wall that had cleaved this
nation into two came down, and with it an evil empire, and the East and West became one again. But the euphoria of this triumph led us to a dangerous delusion: that we had entered, quote, "the end of history;" that every nation would now be a liberal democracy; that the ties formed by trade and by commerce alone would now e replace nationhood; that the rules-based global order - an overused term - would now replace the national interest; and that we would now live in a world without
borders where everyone became a citizen of the world.
This was a foolish idea that ignored both human nature and it ignored the lessons of over 5,000 years of recorded human history. And it has cost us dearly. In thisthe world were born. It was here in Europe where the world - which gave the world the rule of law, the universities, and the scientific revolution. It was this continent that produced the genius of Mozart and Beethoven, of Dante and Shakespeare, of Michelangelo and Da Vinci, of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. And this is the place where the vaulted ceilings of the Sistine Chapel and the towering spires of the great cathedral in Cologne, they testify not just to the greatness of our past or to a faith in God that inspired these marvels. Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one L hope some day you'll join us And the world will live as one

I am enjoying Starfleet Academy for: 4) over the top angsty teen drama 3) futuristic take on Prarie Style decor 2) just, relentless optimism about people and possiblites 1) Holly Hunter's complete, absolute inability to sit in a chair like a normal person

Whenever D'Arcy Carden is in anything, I can't help but note if she is a Good Janet or a Bad Janet. (In _Loot_, she is definitely a Bad Janet.)

AirBnB deleted my wife's account because there is a woman in Florida with the same name and birthday but also a meth problem and parole violations.

If Yankee Candle made a candle that smells like the Indian restaurant I just walked past, I would buy that candle. I would buy the hell out of that candle.

Things I have accidentally invented because I don't have a proper CS education: 1. long format data tables 2. k-fold validation 3. simulated annealing To be clear, this is not bragging. Turns out, learning things from others is good, actually. (Notes for 20-year-old-self.)

Me: You know, this anniversary is a significant milestone! Her: What, because it's a cubic number? *rolls eyes" And that's why we've been married for 27 years.

Anya comes home from her restaurant shift. "Dad — go dish out ice cream. Mom — queue up the video. I'm going to go change into my PJs." *takes a beat* "Now imagine I said that but less bossy."

People have trouble interpreting this. Nobody’s saying Donald Trump or Pam Bondi are personally selecting Nazi iconography. They don’t read enough for that. The point is they hire and promote Nazis who ARE steeped in Nazi iconography, and they’re fine with it.

Oh look, ICE is copying literal Nazi recruiting propaganda again. The poster on the right is for the Volkssturm, the Nazi militia of older men and boys established during the final months of World War II.

@DHSgov on X: We’re taking father/son bonding to a whole new level.

Huh. I did something which made my system load go up to 140 and filled 32gb of ram and 8gb of swap. Desktop wasn't responsive at all, but I could ssh in from another system and ran top and killed some stuff. I expected to have to reboot, but it all just sorted itself out. Good job, modern Linux!
