I had to highlight this tribute to Mamoru Oshii's live action film "Stray Dogs - Keberos Panzer Cops" in the new animated movie "Patlabor EZY - File 1". They literally recreated almost all of the shots from the original 1991 trailer.
The Past Ahead (2004) ends my coverage of "Idemitsu Mako What a Woman Made". The installation is probably the best and most mesmerising viewing experience I had this year: asian-docs.com/2026/08/04/i...

part 4 of my coverage of Idemitsu Mako's retrospective: Shodows Part 1 (1980), Kiyoko’s Situation (1989) (one of her bleakest), and Kae, Act Like a Girl! (1996), an important shift in her career... asian-docs.com/2026/07/26/i...
Three and a half months until Mamoru Oshii's Votoms movie (part 1) comes out in Japan. They haven't released yet a full trailer for the movie, just a couple of teasers, and I can't wait to know more about it. Maybe I should start watching the original series.

What's the name of this pose? I suppose it comes from old Shōwa comedy routines, but I'm not sure what's the actual origin.
Mamoru Oshii's StrayDog: Kerberos Panzer Cop is now streaming on U-NEXT. I wonder if it has a better quality than the rip that circulates on the internet.
Since I'm in my Fujiko Fujio-era, I started reading Fujiko F. Fujio's Esper Mami and watching Fujiko Fujio A's Laughing Salesman. A common trait that they share with Shōtarō Ishinomori is the growing interest in depicting everyday life, even though those two titles are not straight slice of life.

I'm always struck by how many in anglophone comics/manga studies seem to treat scholarship primarily as an expression of fandom, with no apparent curiosity about the medium and its history, content to forever recycle the same myths and tropes.
Here on Bluesky there's an army of small account devoted to extremely niche subjects that get evoked by using certain common keywords. You post about your lunch, and you receive a like from a guy called "Noodles on the road in Wisconsin", you post about the death of your dog and immediately
Japanese podcast for learners Regular Nihongo con Teppei is too hard and I don't understand over 50% of what he says, while Nihongo con Teppei for beginners is too easy and I understand everything. Still, I prefer listening to them instead of other podcasts because Teppei is funny and very natural.
The worst thing about this is that in Italy there's a long history of fascists trying to culturally appropriate of Captain Harlock and other vintage anime. Meloni herself was part of a movement that tried to do the same with Tolkien.
Vous aviez aimé Miyazaki qui offre un cellulo de Porco Rosso à Macron ? Vous allez adorer Makiko Matsumoto qui offre une estampe d'Harlock à Meloni 😒 1/2
I have yet to start watching it, but judging from the trailer to me Goodbye, Lara doesn't "look like old anime" in the way people seem to describe it. It doesn't recreate the experience of watching an anime in the 90s on TV, but rather it resembles much more the one of looking now, as an adult, at

Finished re-reading Shin Lupin III. It's kinda sad that the series ends with three failed attempts at writing an actual plot. At least the San Francisco arc is super fun because of the stunning artworks and some of the story beats, but Yap Land and Bad City are just plain bad.
How am I supposed to go on with my life after watching Doraemon - Nobita and the Cloud Kingdom? what the hell
Been watching some Doraemon and Shin-Chan stuff lately and I keep wondering: is Shin-Ei Animation secretly the best anime studio?
A fundamental problem with doing original historical research is that facts are not subject to copyright, so as long as someone rephrases your writing, they can resell the same facts that it took you significant labor and money to uncover.
An open letter, to readers, about Charity and Sylvia. I am very pained to feel the need to write this. #queerhistory #pride
Finally completed. This was excruciating to watch. Aimless plot completely disinterested in exploring or questioning its own premises. The designs are comedically ugly, which would be okay if the show was as funny as it wanted to be, which is not the case, and the rest is just plain ugly.
12 episodes in, I don't really get what this series has to do with Kamen Rider. Yeah, the characters are obsessed with their childhood heroes and both them and the series itself keep referencing scenes and episodes of the old shows, but there seems to be nothing here that's actually derived from
