- We believe in second chances! - So you think refugees deserve a second chance at making a life? - Not like that - Young people who’ve made mistakes shouldn’t be punished? - Nope - Benefits to help people get back on their feet? - Ha! - So who do you believe in second chances for? - Nazis!

“He was an absolute arsehole to vast swathes of people but you have to remember that I once had a drink with him and he made me laugh - although I probably shouldn’t repeat what he said lol! So overall a decent guy” - the press, this morning.

look, if fear of having everyone on the internet celebrate your death by bringing up every bad thing you’ve done is what it takes to stop people being cunts while they’re alive, i say let’s give it a go

Just read Ben Lerner’s Transcription. It’s been heavily hyped so I’m not sure what I was expecting but I found it quite a slight work (literally - it’s less than 150 pages) but very well written and strangely haunting, if very light on plot. I should probably read it again but who has time for that?

Every time I buy a piece of clothing I like, I immediately want to get at least one more version of it, ideally in a different colour. And yet it’s often quite difficult to do that. I’ve never understood if that’s just because I’m rubbish at fashion or if it’s a market failure?

Yes lockdown was really tough for kids. Lots of those kids are teenagers now so maybe as a thank you our establishments could stop deliberately making even more things worse for them due to a weird systemic hatred of our own youth

I’m always impressed when men are revealed to be living a secret life with another family because I’m not exactly nailing one life so the idea of two or more is quite intimidating. A secret affair? I can’t even remember which days the bins go out.

Just saw a work in progress of Daniel Kitson’s new show Thrum. As ever it’s absolutely crammed with brilliant jokes, delivered by a generational talent with a glint in his eye and a swear word never far away. He throws away observations and thoughts that other comics would build a whole show around.

When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this. Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.

The Times: Net zero risks blackouts. Below a photo of French wildfires.

To be fair to them, Octopus got in touch via DM and sorted out my query. Good to know they are on here and not just on X, and they have generally been good at customer service in the past.

@octopus.energy I’ve emailed you twice and rang several times but not getting any response which is pretty frustrating as you have a lot of my money that I need refunded. Please can you get back to me?

Been calling a car dealership all day and they literally never pick up the phone. It’s pretty extraordinary. Tried every option, every department and different times of day. Just rings out every time. Obviously no email replies either. Wouldn’t mind so much except they have my bloody car.

Worst crowds I’ve ever seen at Kings Cross. No trains moving. No idea what’s happening, no communication and no announcements. People just standing around in massive crowds and no movement. Absolute chaos!
