Do appreciate this headline coming from NPR. The more I hear about "One Night Only" the worse it sounds. I do kind of want to write a dystopian Rom Com just to prove it can be done well. I'll shelve it with the dozen other ideas I don't have time to write.
NPR@npr.org · 2w agoOne Night Only manages to fail as a dystopia and as a rom-com. Meanwhile, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is a perfect tale for this moment — if you don't mind your eroticism with a side of gore.
I am a girl. I like reptiles and horror movies and science fiction and comics and TTRPGs, and for my entire life, every time I have entered a space, I have had to prove that I didn't "steal" it from the person* it rightfully belonged to. (*Boy, then man.)
I think at this point El-Sayed is going to win. The question is by how much. I'm worried if its close we'll see more "winning is actually bad" news "analysis". If it's a crushing victory, there will probably still be some of that, but there might be a chance that "mainstream" dems take notice.

I know it's tempting, but you don't need to include why you wrote the book/what inspired you in the query letter. The query letter should sell the book, that's all. Discussions about inspiration, etc., can be saved for the Call or if an agent asks it on their QM form in another area. #writersky
