This weird belief that some people have that Covid wasn’t really hurting that many people is so out of touch with reality and so disrespectful to the people who suffered, and who died and their families. The children who lost an adult to this disease will be forever impacted.

Letting the disease kill and maim millions of more people wouldn’t have been good for kids either. Every death destroyed a family.

Max Kennerly@maxkennerly.bsky.social · 3d agoMy take on COVID "lockdowns" (really, state and local decisions in the face of a killer plague) is that yes they were bad for children and this is an additional reason why it was morally repugnant when huge segments of the population refused to help with social distancing. Shame on you all.
This is absolutely true. When I served on technology teams in the past, we would often focus on how the technology could transform learning, and I would always go back to. When are we teaching kids how to type? It was waved away and I was told typing was no longer necessary. Big mistake.

People who made the argument over the last decade that boils down to, "That problem you think is a big deal, really isn't a big deal. Everyone is overreacting." have been wrong almost every time.

I’ve had some people recently ask me about why we never had to worry about air quality from wildfires before like when we were kids. I never really know what to say in the situation except it is good that there is almost universal understanding that yes this is a different thing. It’s a change.
