The school closure debate is so bogus it makes me rage. "Kids were practically immune" What about the staff? Were teachers just another piece of collateral damage in the covid culture war? And what about those kids getting covid and taking it home to their families, infecting vulnerable adults?

🧵On @thenewsagents.co.uk yesterday, school closures and the lab leak theory were offered as two examples of legitimate questions that were hard to ask. Both have in fact been asked constantly since 2020. But here's a thread on why I think they were wrong and dangerous on school closures 1/12

One for the John Textor completists. Iconic, one of the funds that invested in Eagle, has won its row with him in London’s commercial courts. Textor owes Iconic $99.6m, plus daily interest of $22,602.74! Iconic: “The time has come for him to honour his contractual obligations.”

Palace's expected sale of Danny Imray to Wrexham for a fee which could rise above £5million and contains a sell on clause is excellent business Imray has progressed very well but was a hopeful punt at 17 Low-fee signings with potential to sell on even if they don't play for #CPFC is the way to go

The wing-back was signed from non-League and, despite never playing for Palace, is expected to move to the Championship club for £5m

It's noticeable, too, that there wasn't a single question on the climate, at a time when Europe is experiencing catastrophic wild-fires & record-breaking heat. It's astonishing how low down the political agenda this remains in Britain, when all the environmental indicators are signalling disaster.

Such an obsession over how everything that might help people is going to be funded. Has it always been like this? Obviously never such scrutiny about going to war and bombing countries

Spiteful anonymous quotes like this are pathetic. I'm not offering an opinion here on whether Reeves was good or bad but saying something like this just turns people away from engaging with politics and entrenches the view that 1) it's too male dominated and 2) it's all a game to these people

Screenshot from the Times blog post at 4:20pm reads as follows

"Rachel Reeves was offered the job of defence secretary but turned it down, The Times understands.
The role may have been awkward for the former chancellor, who was embroiled in a row over how to fund defence plans.
On the prospect of her taking up the role, one Labour source said: "That'll teach her not to fund it."

“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”

How Paris swapped cars for bikes – and transformed its streets

Under Anne Hidalgo – mayor for 12 years until last week – the French capital added bike lanes, cut traffic and reclaimed public space, but not without resistance
