W. Edwards Deming spent much of his career arguing against the old American, inspection-based approach to quality in manufacturing. My favourite analogy of his was making toast: “You burn, I’ll scrape.” One part of the system creates defects; another part tries to clean them up afterwards.

Situation 1: dev A thinks approach X is correct, dev B thinks Y is the right way. They argue and try to convince each other. Situation 2: dev A thinks approach X is correct, tells the LLM to implement it. There is SO MUCH learning in Situation 1, lost when using LLMs....

Fuck. 3 year old family fridge freezer broke at the weekend. $1000 repair, only available in a city 2.5 hours drive away. Now we have a very expensive, increasingly smelly, shiny cupboard in our kitchen.
