First, calm down. Then, stay that way for the rest of your life.

comments like this suggest a stubborn refusal to concede real differences in values. maybe a woman who dedicates her life to the study of the classics simply believes that they illuminate modern life more effectively than our popular culture does. isn't she right to make that argument in public?

I think this piece is interesting, and I understand that Wilson is never going to be a fan of Nolan’s Odyssey. This piece is better about it, but one of my least favorite things about criticism is bemoaning what one thinks a thing should have been rather than engaging with what it is.

As a kid I never used bookmarks; I’d remember which page I was on. But as a kid I only ever read one book at a time, maybe two very rarely. Now I read like four to six books at a time (“Like an octopus,” my mom says), so I no longer remember page number and instead use old receipts as bookmarks.

I updated my fundraiser with more information about what I'm doing and why I need money. Help me keep Other Spaces going! Help support a free trans film series! Help me keep writing, playing music, and making art!

cant tell if i was just clueless but just met by first person doing a paid "post baccalaureate" which seems to be functionally doing phd labwork for an hourly wage but outside of any degree program. i guess a 5 year funding guarantee is too much and theyre adjunctifying phd students now?
