BROWDER: Putin's whole projection of power internationally is completely hollow now. Russia looks like second-tier regional power. That's where Putin is now. He's not superpower everybody thought he was before. We now see Russia for what it is: a corrupt, mid-level failed state.
🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️7 people lost their lives and 24 were wounded in Russia’s overnight attack on Zaporizhzhia. Russia used missiles and guided bombs. August 12 is a Day of Mourning.
How many Cambridge profs have 33 publications and an H-index of 13 (Arday)? Plenty of unpromoted lecturers at my institution at this level, but perhaps not bringing in £££.
A lesson from the Arday case: academic appointment committees should stop caring SO much about public profile, engagement, media attention, and all the rest of it. Universities are not TikTok. They should be the opposite of that. Let’s go back to just being nerds please 🙏
Comparing here and X on Arday is like two different worlds and tbh not in a way that speaks brilliantly of Bluesky’s concern about academic integrity.
also there's two separate sets of accusations for Arday; he got the TES story - done by legitimate journalists and credible academics - killed by legal threats, and then an online racist stumbled upon the material separately.
"86" is us restaurant staff slang for removing something from the menu "47" Is President Trump's presidency So it will be quite reasonable to assume this just means impeach and remove the president? www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

When a King and direct descendent of King George III has to remind the American government about the utmost importance of checks and balances, you know we're in deep trouble.
Lots of work to unlearn!
🙄🇬🇧🙄🇬🇧🙄🇬🇧🙄🇬🇧🙄 We now have an entire media who would rather see a Farage govt, leading to the demise of the NHS and an alliance with the far right US Christian Nationalist fuckers than support the govt we elected And its drift towards EU alignment Putin must be laughing his head off.

Look at this chart. Tax cuts for the rich are a policy choice. Cutting the social safety net in exchange for them is a policy choice. States like New York have an opportunity to help undo this trickle down nonsense by raising taxes on the rich (who will still be rich). I hope Gov. Hochul does.
What does the Iran war have to do with sustaining the Russian economy? Lifting sanctions for Russians does nothing for Americans. It just makes it easier for Russia to continue its war in Ukraine. I spoke with @phillipspobrien.bsky.social about Iran and Russia. snyder.substack.com/p/thinking-l...

I’m old enough to remember when Iran was used to divert attention from Epstein, but now Iran has got so bad Epstein has to be used to divert attention from Iran.
Whether it happens 6 hours from now, 6 days from now, 6 weeks from now, 6 months from now, or 6 years from now, it will be one of the largest worldwide celebrations in the history of the human race.

Maybe Trump Should Not Have Given This Speech
His address raised more questions than it answered about the war in Iran.

What I don't get about the whole debate on whether "Europe" or "NATO" should get involved in "securing" the Strait of Hormuz is this: How are they supposed to secure it? What could their military that the US couldn't do itself (and then take all the credit for)?
We lost a vanity war in the Persian Gulf and created a huge new problem for our allies. And now we say that it is their fault and that they must solve the problem we created.
It is crazy how few people know this: Russia now occupies less Ukrainian land than it did one month into the full-scale invasion four years ago
Stephen Miller: “Trump = peace.” Tulsi Gabbard: “A vote for Donald Trump is a vote to end wars, not start them.” JD Vance: “Trump's best foreign policy? Not starting any wars.” Donald Trump: "My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier." Liars.
The whole Iran war is looking more and more like a gimmick to drop energy sanctions on Russia and pressure Europeans to do the same. A war to make Russia’s much larger war easier and possible to sustain.
Worth noting that Donald Trump just announced the end of NATO and the Special Relationship in one tweet.
