there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

Your occasional reminder that there are places to do this for free or minimal $$. Neocities, for one, is currently great for this. I personally use the code provided by rarebit.neocities.org for all of my comics. Cartoonist Coop also has great resources like this vid: youtu.be/cMuKaDJ5rq0?...

Shit like this is why "never sign a deal with webtoon, host your own webcomic" has landed in my top 5 pieces of advice for young artists

Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

I think I've realized I've lost the plot on SF6 and really fighting games in general. I used to play fighting games with my friends and now I just kinda play them. Idk, I'm not doing it for money and I'm certainly not on that level yet, so I need to find my reason to play.

This is NOT about preservation. They are only doing this to harvest pre 2020's books to use for more training data. They have chosen this method that DESTROYS the book on purpose, because it is faster and cheaper. They know time is limited before society and the bubble catches up with them.

A picture of a tweet showing a woman preserving a book by taking pictures of it in a special picture rig that does not harm the book.

At the internet Archive, this is how to digitize a book.

We never Destroy a book by cutting off its binding.
Instead, we digitize it the hard way -- one page at a time.

No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.
